Good day to everyone. I’m Kaoru Kamikawa. The topic I’ll be covering this time is Japanese politics. The House of Councillors election has ended. Let me give an explanation of the results. First of all, in general, the LDP lost this election . The LDP and Komeito combined did not reach a majority, and since Ishiba came to power, they have been losing elections one after another. It is clear that he does not have enough support from the people , and in the right way, he should have resigned as prime minister and handed the baton over to the next person. At least during the time of Mr. Ishiba, who was in the opposition party within the government, Mr. Ishiba was the one who always strongly criticized the LDP president and prime minister who lost the election . Unfortunately, he is contradictory in that he says things that do not apply to him . On the other hand, from the perspective of the opposition party, it is beneficial for them to have a prime minister who has low support from the people, who are very weak in elections, continue in succession . If it is believed that the opposition party will definitely win the next election, the opposition party would rather welcome Prime Minister Ishiba continuing as he is. On the other hand, the nature of politics will also change from now on. With the era of the LDP’s one-party dominance now over, the LDP will have to ask for the cooperation of the opposition parties for any bills it wants to pass. In the past, deliberations were held on the assumption that the LDP’s bill would ultimately pass, but from now on, bills will not be passed without a certain degree of compromise or movement to find common ground . The same goes for the budget, of course. In that sense, bills that pass will be those that have been agreed upon between the ruling and opposition parties at the very least, so there is a high possibility that the opinions of the people will be more reflected. However, by having such discussions, the number of bills that are passed will decrease, so there are both advantages and disadvantages. And one point in the results of this election is that the voter turnout has increased. Along with this, the power balance of the traditional political parties has also changed. In this election, while the LDP and Komeito lost seats significantly, the opposition parties, the Democratic Party for the People and the Democratic Party for the People, made great strides. However, not all opposition parties increased their seats. For example, the Constitutional Democratic Party, the largest opposition party, did not change its seats in this election. In other words, it maintained its previous strength and did not increase its own seats by the amount of the LDP’s loss. In the overall picture, the ruling party lost, but it can be said that the battle for the largest party among the opposition parties became more fierce. By the way, in this election, I recommended the new party Team Mirai and the Democratic Party for the People. Team Mirai had been in existence for only a few months, but Takahiro Yasuno, who rose to prominence in the Tokyo gubernatorial election, said that he wanted to use technology to change national politics, and this was accepted by many people. The party’s leader, Takahiro Yasuno, was elected in the proportional representation district, and the party’s overall vote share exceeded 2%, meeting the requirements for a national political party. The Democratic Party for the People also won the largest opposition party vote share in the proportional representation district, making a big leap forward. However, I think that if the negative impact of choosing Shiori Yamao and Genki Sudo had not been present in the selection of candidates, the party would have made more progress. That is very disappointing. Now, let’s take a look at the numbers based on publicly available information. To see the momentum of this election and how each party is doing, it is best to look at the national proportional representation. In the proportional representation district, the Liberal Democratic Party won 12 seats and received 21.6% of the vote. Next is the Democratic Party for the People, the largest opposition party, with 12.9% of the vote. Next is the Sabakuto Party, with 7,425,053 votes. In fourth place is the Constitutional Democratic Party, with 7,397,459 votes and 12.5%. A big change in this House of Councillors election is that the Constitutional Democratic Party and the Democratic Party of Japan have gained support in the same class. The following are the Komeito Party, the Japan Innovation Party, the Reiwa Party, the Conservative Party, the Communist Party, Team Mirai, and the Social Democratic Party. The following are the N Party, the Rebirth Party, the Spirit Party, the Independent Alliance, and the Reform Party. These parties won zero seats in the proportional representation district. Let’s take a look at the winners in the proportional representation district. The top of the proportional representation district of the Democratic Party for the People are people with a solid rock base of support, mainly supported by labor unions. The number of seats won in the proportional representation district is 7. Finally, we have Yoshihiko Yamada. This person is actively making proposals on so-called security issues and offshore resources, and is a very important person for the Democratic Party for the People. Right after him is Genki Sudo. Genki Sudo was selected as an official candidate along with Shiori Yamao, and caused a huge uproar on the Internet. However, Genki Sudo received 59,982 votes. I still wonder why this person was chosen to get this number of votes . I think it was probably several times, three or four times, that caused people to leave the support of the Democratic Party for the People. And there are other points to look at in the proportional representation districts as well. For example, the Japanese Conservative Party. The Japanese Conservative Party won two seats in the proportional representation district this time. The first place candidate, lawyer Haruo Kitamura, received 941,238 votes. On the other hand, the party leader, Naoki Hyakuta, received 123,628 votes. Clearly, in this election, the Japanese Conservative Party was very dependent on Kitamura, and it can be said that the representative and secretary-general were very unreliable as fighting forces. If lawyer Kitamura had not run this time, the Japanese Conservative Party may not have won any seats. Osaka is the representative , right? Even the representative has not mentioned himself at all this time. Some people don’t even know that the representative is a candidate. It’s completely surprising. I wonder if he has any motivation. I don’t want to become a member of the Diet. That’s not what I’m talking about. I don’t want to become a Diet member. Is there anyone here who wants to be one? Among us. The “Road to Rebirth” produced by Shinji Ishimaru, who was the talk of the town on the Internet, was unable to gather 440,000 votes in the proportional representation election, and was unable to field a strong candidate in the electoral district, so was unable to win a seat. On the final day, Hiroyuki took to the stage for a street speech, but there was a question about whether it would have been better if Ishimaru had run, and Ishimaru was forced to agree. Some people have analyzed that the driving force behind the rise of the Democratic Party for the People was the Democratic Party for the People. From the Asahi Shimbun. Half of the voters of the Democratic Party for the People came from the Democratic Party for the People. Online opinion survey on proportional representation district voting. According to an online opinion survey conducted by the Asahi Shimbun in collaboration with Professor Miura Asako of Osaka University’s School of Social Psychology, 20% of people who said they intended to vote for the Democratic Party for the People in the proportional representation district of the House of Councillors election changed their vote to the Democratic Party for the People after May. The number of people who chose to vote for the Democratic Party for the People , likely due to the confusion surrounding the official endorsement of candidates , has increased more than five-fold since May, with half of the increase coming from the Democratic Party for the People. These are votes for the Democratic Party for the People, but they also include so-called independent votes from people who did not vote, Not only that, but people who had been thinking about which party to vote for from the beginning, but were thinking about which party to vote for, gradually left the Democratic Party for the People and moved to the Party for the People, which seems to have been one of the reasons for the popularity of the Party for the People. However, if people left the Democratic Party for the People and went to the Party for the People because of Shiori Yamao, it is still understandable, but if they then voted for the Party for the People in order to avoid Genki’s so -called anti-vaccine activities and conspiracy theories , then that is also a bit strange. The Party for the People has a history of actively engaging in so-called anti-vaccine activities , although they did not say so openly in this election . By the way, the Party for the People made a breakthrough this time by promoting Japanese people first, but what activities will they be doing after the election? In response to this question, Representative Kamiya has a strange view. First of all, in one of the discussions about what they will do regarding measures for foreigners, Kamiya says that there are no special privileges for foreigners in the first place. Let’s take a look at this video. Once again, do you think there are special privileges for foreigners? Especially not in Japan, right? However, there may be some cases where Japanese people feel that they are not equal. So it’s not a privilege, but I think that we should do it a little more like Japanese people, and that because we are foreigners, we may be a little too considerate . I understand . Thank you. “What a cliche,” Kamiya said on an election program, experts criticize the “bill contents” of immigration measures… Hiroyuki also said, “The LDP is also saying it.” Niconico Live Broadcasting distributed an election program titled “【Upper House Election 2025】Hiroyuki Joins the Battle! Live Interview with Party Leaders on the Vote Count Special Program .” In the second half of the program, Kamiya appeared on the program, and while the other guests continued to ask questions about the election results and future plans, Hiroyuki asked Kamiya, who appeared on the program, what kind of bills he plans to submit, given that the program is expected to win more than 10 seats in the House of Councillors, which is the number that can submit bills. Kamiya then said, “It’s the corona problem that started in 2020. We will examine whether the government’s actions regarding countermeasures were really correct, and whether there was any waste, even though a lot of the budget has been spent …”, but Hiroyuki, who felt that it was not about the content of the bill itself, asked again, “What kind of bill will you submit?” Kamiya responded, “Ah, so it’s a bill that says ‘We will review corona countermeasures.'” In addition, the current party’s catchphrase was “Japanese people first,” and one of the issues was the “foreigner problem,” but a question was asked about a specific bill: “What kind of bill will you submit to deal with immigration?” Kamiya then replied, “Is it immigration measures? Immigration measures are the first thing. Now that we’ve changed the technical training program, I think we should review it again ,” appearing to be a little stuck for an answer. Hiroyuki asked, “What kind of revisions will be made in the bill?”, but then the time was up and the screen returned to the studio, and the interview ended without the audience being able to hear Kamiya’s answer to the end. I briefly introduced his previous remarks, but Kamiya made the immigration issue a point of contention as an election strategy, but he is of the opinion that there are no special privileges for foreigners in the first place. Therefore, it is difficult to take measures against privileges that do not exist, so there is a possibility that there will be no serious efforts on immigration measures. Furthermore, even though he was asked about immigration measures, he answered about the technical intern training program , but the technical intern training program is not an immigration system itself. In other programs, he was also asked about defense policy. In a question titled “Party Parties’ Perception of ‘Nuclear'”, he was asked how Japan will secure a deterrent against the countries surrounding Japan, which are all nuclear-armed countries. At that time, Kamiya said, ” We need to think about barriers and electromagnetic pulse attacks, which do not exist yet .” By the way, the barrier is what is called “SF” and does not exist at all in today’s science and technology. Some supporters tried to interpret it in a positive way, and some people tried hard to interpret it as referring to an air defense missile system, not something like what you see in manga or games . However, an air defense missile network is merely a defense, not a deterrent against countries that have nuclear weapons. So what is the electromagnetic pulse attack that he mentioned as another measure other than the barrier? There is something a little strange about Kamiya’s thinking about this electromagnetic pulse attack. This is because an electromagnetic pulse attack is usually a form of attack using nuclear weapons. An electromagnetic pulse attack is an attack that involves detonating a nuclear bomb at a high altitude of 30 to 400 km above the ground, and using the gamma rays generated to affect security and social infrastructure. Gamma rays, a type of radiation, generate electrons by colliding with molecules in the air, and eventually become intense electromagnetic waves that surge to the ground. Although electromagnetic waves do not directly affect the human body, they cause problems with electricity and communications. The range is wide; for example, if a nuclear bomb about two-thirds the size of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima were to explode 30km above Tokyo, the effect would reach a radius of about 600km, and it has been pointed out that a power outage would occur in almost the entirety of Honshu. Thus, the only electromagnetic pulse attack that is currently considered is an attack using a nuclear bomb. If a nuclear bomb is exploded near the ground, the shock and hot air can cause tremendous damage to the surrounding area. On the other hand, if it is exploded at high altitude, the electromagnetic pulse generated by it can be used as a means of attack. In this case, although the blast and shock do not reach the ground, it can cause damage to a wide area of electronic devices, making it one method of nuclear attack. On the other hand, in this context, the idea of using an electromagnetic pulse attack as a deterrent against a country possessing nuclear weapons , if nuclear weapons are not used, is also currently classified as science fiction. This is because it is currently thought that an electromagnetic pulse attack without nuclear weapons cannot be secured on a sufficient scale. There were other unfortunate points about this election. For example, in the Liberal Democratic Party, Suzuki Muneo, who is known as a pro-Russian politician, ran in the proportional representation district. As the LDP’s struggles were reported, Suzuki Muneo also thought that he had lost, and once announced his retirement. However, when the night came, it was determined that the LDP had received a reasonable number of votes, and Suzuki Muneo was ultimately elected in the proportional representation district. Suzuki Muneo had initially stated that he would not run in any more elections, and that this election would be the last one, but when it was reported that he would be elected for sure, he retracted this statement and said, “I was kept alive by an invisible force. I want to work hard.” Unfortunately, it seems that he will continue to live a life as a member of the LDP that makes use of his connections with Russia . In the recent House of Councillors election, the LDP-Komeito government lost a large number of seats and fell short of a majority. Since he has been defeated in national elections in both the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors in succession, Prime Minister Ishiba should take responsibility and resign. Prime Minister Ishiba stated that one of the reasons for his intention to continue in office is that He mentioned that tariff negotiations with the United States are ongoing. If that is the case, we can consider the point where the tariff negotiations are coming to an end as a turning point. Under these circumstances, whoever becomes prime minister will have a hard time running the government. However, if we think about the people, we don’t want a politician who thinks that the LDP is struggling and is thinking about stepping down as prime minister to become prime minister in the first place. No matter how difficult the times are, I want him to become prime minister for the sake of Japan and the Japanese people and to govern well. In this election, each person will be paying attention to completely different points. That is why I think it is important to watch elections with interest , rather than overlooking them with indifference . In the end, politics will affect our lives, and it is an issue that affects us. There are many issues around us , such as the economy, administrative services, tax systems, and illegal foreigners , and also in terms of disaster prevention and security, how politics move on a daily basis is a very important issue when it comes to preparing for crises that have not yet occurred . What points did you pay attention to in this election, and what were your thoughts on it? Please feel free to comment. Thank you for watching the video until the end. 1.
