The movie starring Yukino Kishii, Minami Hamabe, and Yosuke Sugino has been released today in Japan (1 April 2022, Friday).

Based on the novel of the same title by Maru Ayase, this film is a sad and endearing story of best friends who are bound by strong bonds for 12 years.

Synopsis
It has been five years since Mana’s best friend disappeared. With memories that she doesn’t wish to forget and secrets of her best friend that she never knew, she sets out on a journey to find the truth about her dear friend.

Mana, who is shy and unable to express herself well, meets the free-spirited and mysterious Sumire and they became best friends. However, Sumire suddenly disappears while traveling alone. Five years later, Mana still can’t accept Sumire’s disappearance and feels repulsed by the people around her who treat Sumire as if she’s dead. One day, Mana receives a video camera from Tono, Sumire’s former lover, that Sumire cherished. The video camera contains the time that Mana and Sumire spent together, as well as her secrets that Mana never knew… In order to face Sumire once again, Mana heads to the place where Sumire traveled for the last time.

What is the hidden secret of her best friend that was left on the camera? We will have to wait and see where Mana’s journey leads her.

Cast
Kishii plays the main character, Mana, who cannot accept the death of her best friend who suddenly disappeared. And Hamabe plays Mana’s best friend, Sumire, who is free-spirited and has a mysterious charm. Yosuke Sugino, who is currently making a big breakthrough in TV and commercials, will play Sumire’s lover (Tono). And Haya Nakazaki will play Mana’s colleague at work (Kunikita).

Other talented cast also includes Mayu Tsuruta as Sumire’s mother (Shizuka), and Tomoko Nakajima as Koei, who runs a guest house in Tohoku. Furthermore, Koei’s daughter will be played by Yuzumi Shintani, a graduate of the idol group Sakura Gakuin. Mana’s boss, Narahara, will be played by Ken Mitsuishi, a regular in Nakagawa’s films such as “Mio on the Shore”.

Directed and written by Ryutaro Nakagawa, director of “Summer Blooms” (2017) and “Mio on the Shore” (2019), who has attracted attention both at home and abroad, winning both the International Federation of Film Critics Award and the Federation of Russian Film Critics Special Recognition Award at the Moscow Film Festival. With the overwhelming acting ability of the leading young cast and director Nakagawa’s worldview, this is a moving film that will touch your heart.
