2024立春盆栽大市出店紹介~掌サイズの盆栽から大型名木まで圧巻の顔ぶれ~
Hello, this is Morimae, WABI CHANNEL Navigator. Today I am reporting from the Ueno Green Club, the hall of fame of the bonsai community here. The Risshun Bonsai Grand Market, the industry’s largest sales booth, is being held in conjunction with the 98th Kokufu Bonsai Exhibit.
The booths are set up by well-known bonsai gardens and artists from all over Japan, each representing the colors of their store. Today, we would like to introduce you to the unique booths of many bonsai gardens. Please enjoy.
This is the booth of Mr. Yamahata from Okayama, who has a booth next to our booth every year in the Green Club building. It is rude to talk about Mr. Yamahata in front of him,
But I think he is a bit of an eccentric when it comes to Shinpaku creation, so that his techniques are outstanding. Morimae: You showcase a variety of bonsais here every year, but rather than focusing on sales,
I would say that this is more of a place where you value making connections with various people who see your work. Mr. Yamahata: Yes, that’s right. Morimae: We already see this skill of yours, that you are in your 70s and your works are still improving.
Please take a look at the overwhelmingly great trees. It’s a tough a week, but please do your best. Thank you very much. The largest booth occupying a corner of the Green Club building, I would say.
This booth, which is said to be a model of professionalism in every respect, including the content and display of the trees, is run by Mr. Shinji Suzuki and his son, Mr. Hiroaki Suzuki, both of Nagano Prefecture, who were previously introduced in the WABI CHANNEL. Morimae: Thank you for your time.
Mr. Shinji Suzuki: Thank you very much. Morimae: It starts tomorrow, these are trees with so much content, so please watch it. I think that in just a couple of days, the sold tag will be attached in a flurry. They are such a group of great trees that our mouths will not stay close.
Please have a look at them. This is our booth, the largest outdoor booth at this market. We have had this booth for several years in order for many people to see young trees, famous trees, and many other things. A place to meet people and make promises to our customers.
This booth at the Green Club Risshun Bonsai Grand Market serves many purposes for us. This is the booth of Mr. Shiraishi, who graduated from us, SCUBE, and is now a member of Nippon Bonsai Growers Cooperative.
He opened a first booth here several years ago as a place to connect with customers and to establish his own form of bonsai garden. Morimae: How do you think that, after doing it here for several years? Mr. Shiraishi: Every year is a learning experience for me. Morimae: That’s exactly right.
This place was the first time for me to have a professional concession stand. I wish you the best of luck in what kind of store you will run, Shiraishi-kun. Mr. Shiraishi: Thank you very much.
Here is the booth of Innami Goyoen, a bonsai garden run by two generations of a father and son in northern Tochigi Prefecture. Please take a look. They have been working diligently to preserve the seedlings of Nasu Japanese white pine trees and to create new bonsai from these seedlings.
Every year, Mr. Innami displays the Japanese white pine trees here and explains them to many customers. Morimae: Thank you for your time. Mr. Innami: Thank you very much. Morimae: Tomorrow the market will start again, but every year these seedling Japanese white pine trees, Mr. Innami: Yes.
Morimae: How many years does it take to grow from seed to this size? Mr. Innami: This one took more than ten years, twelve or three years, yes. Morimae: I see, so how long does it take to grow to this size? Mr. Innami: It has been more than 20 years.
Morimae: In the end, what is the percentage of seeds sown to reach this level? Is it like one in thousands? Mr. Innami: Well, if we can do 1 in 100. Morimae: 1 in 100? Mr. Innami: Yes, if we can. Morimae: I heard it is 1 in 100. Mr. Innami: That’s right.
Morimae: The number of genuine Nasu Japanese white pine trees, whether it is a small bonsai or a medium bonsai, is really decreasing, isn’t it? Mr. Innami: There are very few, yes.
Morimae: I have seen you every year explaining them while showing them to everyone, and you are famous for your detailed explanations, Mr. Innami. Please take care of it, thank you very much. Mr. Innami: Thank you very much.
This is the booth of “Bonsai Ohno,” which is very popular among small bonsai enthusiasts in the Kanto area. Every year at the beginning of the Bonsai Grand Market, many ordinary enthusiasts flock to this booth to see these works. A bonsai as large as your palm.
This pleasure can be enjoyed by everyone in any living environment. Mini pots or “mame pots” as they are called. These pots are the final outfit that your bonsai will wear, and they are deeply enjoyable.
This is the booth of Moriyama Kinka-en in Dazaifu, Kyushu, the family home of Yoshihiko Moriyama, a bonsai artist who works right near us here at SCUBE. The Risshun Bonsai Grand Market features many of Japan’s leading professionals from Kyushu to Tohoku.
It is from these bonsai that the road to the Kokufu Bonsai Exhibit challenge begins. This is the booth of Iura Shoju-en of Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture, which we reported on receiving the Prime Minister’s Award a few months ago. He welcomes many visitors at the entrance of this Green Club every year.
Morimae: Thank you for your efforts this year. Mr. Iura: It’s not a problem. But it is cold. Morimae: No, better than Nagano. Mr. Iura: Oh, well, better than Nagano. Morimae: Mr. Iura is good at creating Shinpaku. Here are bonsai that he grafted himself, and medium-sized bonsai that are easy for customers to buy.
Your place has some powerful and large bonsai, but you did not bring them this time? Mr. Iura: I brought bonsai that are easy for customers to pick up. Morimae: Yes, it seems that you make it a place to connect with your customers so that many people can enjoy it. Kindly do your best.
Mr. Iura: Thank you very much. Morimae: Thank you very much. Mr. Terasawa, who is said to be the number one auctioneer in our bonsai community, in other words our professional market, and is said to be the top in judging the price of an item in an instant.
This is Ishii Bonsai’s store from Maebashi. He opens a booth at this location every year. Please take a look. This is the place where many trees, like those exhibited at the Kokufu exhibition, are lined up and waiting for you all. Morimae: You have do a great job this year as well.
Mr. Terasawa: Yes, thank you very much. Morimae: Mr. Terasawa is not originally very good at this kind of concession stand. Morimae: If anything, Mr. Terasawa is opening a concession stand with the attitude that he does not come forward and would like people to see the trees he has placed.
We should both do our best to sell as much as possible. Morimae: Thank you very much. Mr. Kunio Kobayashi of Shunka-en, president of the Japan Suiseki Union and world-renowned bonsai artist and Mr. Akiyma of Akiyama-en. This is a joint booth of these two bonsai gardens.
From Kokufu exhibition-class trees to lovely trees and various other things. As both of them are bonsai artists, and their sense of style comes out in their stores. How was the Risshun Bonsai Grand Market held in conjunction with the Kokufu Bonsai Exhibit?
For me, this is the 50th Bonsai Grand Market at the Green Club, the previous name Bonsai Club, since my training days. The number of stores I can introduce to you is limited. Many stores have their own unique contents. How do you like such WABI CHANNEL?

Thank you for the incredible generosity you show in providing us with English subtitles.
Wow ❤ so many bonsai for sale ❤
Mrs. Ohno has the best mini bonsai trees I have ever seen. Maybe a video with her and her terrific mini's and pots would be nice to see.
Grande vídeo! Parabéns 👏👏👏
Amigo se for possível, faça um vídeo nos mostrando, como funciona a exposição Kokufu… Obrigado
I'd like to know, where do those large Pine bonsais come from, as It tales decades for trees to reach that size, and there are lots of them. Do they sell'm or simply keep they in the nursery to take to exhibitions?
Enjoyable video…thank you!
I love Bonsai ohno!
