The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Su-metal , Moametal , and Yui Mizuno as “Yuimetal” , with the concept of creating a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. Originally a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became an independent act in 2013, following Nakamoto’s departure from Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal released their eponymous debut album in February 2014. Their second album Metal Resistance was released worldwide in April 2016. Babymetal has also embarked on several tours, with a majority of their tour dates taking place outside of Asia. The group released their third album Metal Galaxy in October 2019.

On October 19, 2018, Babymetal announced that Yui Mizuno had decided to leave the band due to poor health, following her absence from live performances since December 2017. Since her departure, the band has performed with backup dancers at live performances.

BABYMETAL was formed in 2010. In March 2014, they took the stage at Nippon Budokan for a 2-day gig, making them the youngest female act to perform there. Their 1st studio album BABYMETAL instantly made it to the US Billboard charts. In April 2016, BABYMETAL had a global release for their 2nd album METAL RESISTANCE. They became the highest-charting Japanese band ever on UK’s Official Albums Chart, landing at No. 15th. They also reached the 39th spot on its debut on the U.S. Billboard, becoming the first album by a Japanese artist to break into the chart’s top 40 in more than 53 years. On April 2nd, BABYMETAL performed at the prestigious Wembley Arena in the UK. They completed their world tour in September at the Tokyo Dome for a consecutive 2 days with over 110,000 people to witness the massive tour final. They have also performed as special guests in various international locations for the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, METALLICA, GUNS N’ ROSES, and KORN.
In 2019, BABYMETAL flew to the UK to perform at Glastonbury Festival. On October 11th, BABYMETAL had their worldwide release of their 3rd album METAL GALAXY and on that same day, they had their first U.S. headlining arena show at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.
“METAL GALAXY” ranked No.13 on the US Billboard Top 200 and ranked No.1 on the Top Rock Albums Chart for the first time ever as an Asian artist. In the UK Official Charts, the album consecutively ranked in the Official Albums Chart Top 20 from their previous album and ranked No.1 on the Rock & Metal Albums Chart for the first time in history as a Japanese artist.
After finishing their longest world tour of their history, they performed at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in January 2020 for consecutive 2 days as their extra show of their world tour in Japan, and restaged the world of their 3rd album “METAL GALAXY”.

  2. I get all choked up and my eyes mist over when I see this performance. This is one for the books. Classic and Rpic Babymetal!! ❤ Long live the Yui Era!!

  3. their gigantic arena shows are amazing, but seeing them in a setting like this really showcases the talent, hard work, and dedication that went into creating a global phenomenon.

  4. I've never seen this performance before. I was kinda shocked to see them actually fall all way down during the Moa vs. Yui "fight".

  5. Everything changes and time cannot be stopped, but I like BabyMetal the most from the first period of their activity. Without Yui it would never be Baby or Metal again… Thanks to Kitsune we have an ageless video.

  6. Wow, early. One of my favorite songs and I always love the start with Yui and Moa running. Favorite performance is still Sonisphere, Su look at the beginning of We Got This, knowing they had WON OverThe Crowd!!!

  7. This is what it looks like when someone has the courage to be completely different and write their own page in the rock history book. I need a mint flavored time machine so I can go back and see early BABYMETAL…..that youthful energy…whew

  8. I really like this video because the sound is so raw and "live", specially drums. If I have found the right person Shin from band called Prime Force is behind the drums. Amazing video!

  9. I'd never seen this video before, loved it! Can anyone tell me who the members of the Kami band were during this performance?
