[SUB] 모던함과 전통이 공존하는 도쿄 속 작은 프랑스, 카구라자카

Hello everyone, I came to Kagurazaka, Tokyo’s Paris, today. Actually, it’s my first time coming to Kagurazaka, but it was a town I really wanted to visit. I heard that Kagurazaka has a French vibe and also retains a traditional Japanese atmosphere, So shall we go explore and find those diverse charms?

It’s about 15 minutes from Shinjuku. (It feels like a town with a soothing atmosphere.) It’s central, but it doesn’t feel overly hectic. Honestly, personally, I find Shinjuku a bit chaotic. Seems like there’s stuff to buy, people to meet, and a lot to do! That’s how it goes, haha.

This place is really nice~ (It has a calm and quiet town atmosphere…) As for the meaning of Kagurazaka, if you look at the Chinese characters, it consists of (shin – god), (jeulginda – enjoy), and ‘언덕’ (eondeok – hill).

As for the meaning of Kagurazaka, if you look at the Chinese characters, it consists of (shin – god), (jeulginda – enjoy), and ‘언덕’ (eondeok – hill). The ‘Kagura’ part refers to a form of Japanese sacred music and dance performed at Shinto shrines to entertain and honor the gods.

It involves playing music or performing dances with a sense of reverence for the gods. That’s the kind of meaning it carries. I understand that Kagurazaka is known for having many good restaurants (Kagurazaka = the town of gourmet spots). So, what should we try first, everyone~ Kagurazaka has a French vibe

And also exudes a traditional Japanese atmosphere. Let’s start by having a meal at a place that gives off a traditional Japanese vibe, and then enjoy dessert at a place with a French atmosphere! So, what do you think, everyone? (Just imagining it feels like a perfect combination…)

I’m thinking of trying out a place called ‘Saryo,’ which focuses on tea and offers both desserts and rice dishes. #Kagurazaka Saryo Main Branch The menu seems diverse and it puts me in a good mood. Let me show you! It seems like famous items include things like Mont Blanc. But shouldn’t we start with a meal first? There are also many set meals with a traditional Japanese atmosphere

So I need to explore the menu and consider. ~Currently exploring the menu~ Everyone~ I’ve decided! Here, they have a dish called “Cream Udon with Pollack Roe and Seafood,” and if we choose for the Japanese tea set, it seems we can choose from teas available here.

They have teas from Shizuoka, Kyoto, and even teas from Kagoshima, a southern town, as I heard. I’m planning to ask the staff for their recommendations. Shall we go ahead and place an order!? I’ll also ask for recommendations on which tea goes well with the dishes.

Order completed with Kyoto’s ‘Fukuka Tea’! It seems Kagurazaka indeed has a lot of great restaurants. Before coming to this town, I did a lot of research and searching. There are so many highly-rated places that choosing a restaurant was a real dilemma for me.

This place is always a popular spot with long lines, so I’m happy we could walk right in. (The tea we ordered came out first!) First off, it seems like ‘Fukuka’ from Kyoto is a rich green tea. So, first, you pour hot water into this cup as indicated here. Hmm~ By doing this, the cup also warms up, so the tea doesn’t cool down quickly. It seems to convey that meaning.

And then, you pour the hot water into this pot. (Flip the hourglass received with the tea and wait for 1 minute) And if you wait for 1 minute, it gives a feeling of steeping or infusing, right?

(Let me provide more details with a second attempt to explain to everyone ㅠ_ㅠ) To be honest, I accidentally poured hot water here too quickly, and the color came out right away ㅠ_ㅠ It seems that when you do it for the first time, the color comes out a bit slowly.

After trying it once, even if you don’t wait for a full minute, the flavor comes out right away! It’s a bit challenging but fun! Oh…? Looks like it’s done! Now that it’s steeped, let me take a sip! Indeed, it’s delicious~ The food came out quickly!

It’s Cream Udon with Pollack Roe and Seafood, which includes clams! And this is a bowl of rice (mabap), which you could have just as regular rice, but I insisted, “Please make it a mabap!” Enjoy your meal~~ I’ll start with the Cream Udon!

It was cold today, but it feels like my body is warming up. It’s so delicious The noodles are thin and slightly on the softer side, but the texture is really nice. I sometimes find carbonara a bit heavy, but This feels like a carbonara that you can enjoy in a lighter way..?

I enjoyed the Udon with a broth that feels lighter than carbonara! Now it’s time for the rice bowl! Mabap always tastes delicious no matter when you eat it, right?! ..as expected~~~ It’s so delicious that it’s a bit of a problem..? Well, I keep saying it’s delicious every time.

I know it might sound suspicious, Mint fans, but it really tastes delicious.. (100% genuine flavor..*) I feel so comfortable to the point that it’s a shame to leave here. Wow, I really enjoyed the meal~ Yes, everyone, we had a very successful lunch. I’m so full and happy,

And I think I’ll come back again! Oh!? Everyone, it seems like this is the Kakurenbo Yokoso that I originally intended to visit. The writing says ‘Welcome to Kakurenbo Yokoso.’ The name Kakurenbo Yokoso means hide and seek *Kakurenbo Yokoso: When someone secretly visits, they hide in the alley. Originating from an episode about being able to avoid others’ eyes, It’s like a maze, and it’s amusing. Did I come out..? Is this the end…? Seeing myself unintentionally coming out,

It’s truly confusing, just like the origin story, so it seems I might not be able to find my way. I’m turning back and going along Kagurazaka Street, heading towards Kagurazaka Station. There’s a famous shrine in that direction, so I might stop by there as well.

If you enter this street, there is Akagi Shrine #Akagi Shrine This shrine is known in Japan as a shrine that is considered “beautiful in terms of design,” to the point where the design is considered sophisticated now I was a bit surprised because the ground is not dirt but concrete

It gives off a somewhat urban vibe. It was really clean and nice. Even though I’ve visited many shrines, it becomes more interesting as you realize each shrine has its own unique personality. I’ve eaten delicious food, prayed, so maybe it’s time to have some French desserts, right?

Oh? It looks like this is the place! I came from the opposite direction of Kagurazaka Main Street. (Today’s dessert) A French dessert cafe, Aux Merveilleux de Fred! *Merveilleux: A cake with meringue wrapped in cream, topped with plenty of mousse and chocolate shavings I saw ‘Merveilleux’ for the first time

It seems to be a French dessert. What should I try, everyone? The cakes are quite unique and beautiful~ all of them are pretty~ Merveilleux is said to be popular in chocolate flavor, so I’m planning to order it in chocolate flavor. *Due to audio issues, the sound is not good for a moment. Trying Merveilleux for the first time, it’s light! What flavor could it be..? Oh, it’s really light, smooth, and delicious!

The taste keeps drawing me in! This one is a waffle with a thin layer of vanilla cream. It was so tasty with rich vanilla flavor and sweetness! The irresistible taste made me keep eating! It paired well with the black tea I ordered together!

Today, I feel satisfied because I had a tea that complemented the food well. Oh, I see what you mean. It’s like pairing wine with certain dishes. This sake goes well with this type of food. There’s a bit of that combination thing, you know?

Today, it’s Japanese cuisine with green tea! And then French desserts with black tea, even though I’m full, it feels like I had a really satisfying time. Being in Japan and still being able to experience France was very nice and fun!

When you want to feel like you’re in France, just head to nearby Kagurazaka! Kagurazaka is just right place~ Today, I saw Kagurazaka for the first time. How was it? It was really interesting because there’s a blend of cultures from Japan and France, which are quite different!

Although not a typical tourist destination, walking around seems to be in a charming town. Well then, that’s it for today’s video! Let’s go home!
