Su-Metal With or Without the Mic? #babymetal #metal #music #shorts
In BABYMETAL’s “A Faint Flower”, Su-Metal performs the song two very different ways — the emotional music video version and the powerful live performance.
But I have a question…
Is Su-Metal actually better when she performs without the microphone during the choreography?
In this short, we compare the LIVE performance vs the official MV to see which version hits harder.
What do you think?
🎤 Mic in hand or hands-free performance?

I prefer her without a mic tbh I don't know why 😂 maybe because I feel like we can her expression more without something covering her mouth lol idk tho 😂
Music videos, without. Live performances, with. So it depends on the setting she's in.
Moa doesn't let her get a headset because she wants to troll Su when handing over the microphone before Road of Resistance.
I kinda prefer her live voice, tbh. I personally like to hear the expression and hear the small imperfections that come from live performances, and I also hear a lot more fullness and vibrato in her voice. It could be a mixing thing when it comes to produced recordings that takes away some of that. After all, the First Take performance of Monochrome was just absolutely sublime because the voice is just so prominent in that recording and you can hear the changes in volume in her approach. That crescendo before the final chorus? Bone chilling. So good. 🔥
Acho muito característico ela com o microfone nas apresentações. É até engraçado ver ela meio perdida com algumas danças de short em que ela só dança hehehe
Su is a perfect goddess
She has such a lovely voice. With her without a mic. Heart.❤
Su-metal without a microphone feels wrong
In videos…she looks ok without the mic. In live performances though, the mic is almost part of her persona. I have seen a couple of reactors who reverse the image of the live show to try to the video to not be taken down, and Su with the mic in her right hand looks… weird.
I would say that she almost looks incomplete without a mic, I have said it before… She was born with a mic in her hand.
And there was me thinking her left hand had a microphone permanently attached 😂
SU-METAL's voice isn't just an extraordinary voice nor just a secret weapon. It's her Noble Phantasm (If anyone here has been into the Fate Series, you'll know that a Noble Phantasm is a weapon that is not just their Ultimate weapon, it is, somewhat, a foundation of their identity as a heroic spirit (e.g. King Arthur's Excalibur))
I love seeing her cute facial expressions in the videos which require the removal of the mic. But the close up views of her singing in the mic are powerful!
I just love seeing Su smile.
My two favorite Su smiles:
1) Arcadia vid – when she twirls her fingers and lowers her mic and beams like the damn sun.
2) Leave It All Behind vid – when she claps both her hands to her cheeks and BEAMS LIKE THE DAMN SUN.
I love my queen…
Su's just awesome either way!
I like her singing with both because I've been a fan for 13 years they have great music
I've always said Su was born with a mic in her hand. Her expressiveness is in her voice. Not to mention there are things you can do with a hand mic.
Like that interlude in Rondo of Nightmare (yes I know she lip synched at Budokan but she sings it live too). She tilts the mic, places it against her nose, and lets the mic pic up the resonance of the nasal passages instead of her throat.
She doesn't use a head mic because the quality of a handheld mic is so much better.
I prefer her with mic because that seems more natural for her.
She doesn´t know what to do with an empty left hand 😂I prefer the Queen with a microphone. It is like her scepter. She often uses it to express herself.
The Queen Godess 👸🏻
As hard as choosing who I love most, mom or dad.
Both she does great she is absolutely amazing singer the metal queen she sounds great from beginning and now babymetal 4ever thanks for share
She was born with a mic in her hand so it's always weird to see her without one
Esta chida la canción
The mic she holds for Headbanger will forever be ICONIC. I think that proves that her mic is part of her persona whenever she performs. And also it gives off this queen-vibe that Su is so good at portraying.😁
Hi from Japan, Gaby!🎌⛩️🗾🦊
My HUFO (Honest Un Filtered Opinion, see Samuraiguitarist) is that I’m pissed off whenever Su’s singing gets Auto Tuned.
There is ample evidence that Su can sing/rap BxMxC, yet the studio version is obviously Auto Tuned. It’s horrible!
Wishing you well, Man!
Yes
Thank you 🦊
.
My first exposure to Babymetal was the Megitsune MV. Two things hooked me in. The arrangement and Su–'s vocals. Yes, there were many secondary factors. I agree with @wombatmetal, the handheld mic allows so much more control than a headset would and with better quality. So what I'm saying is vocals first, no matter what. And this from a guy who's daily jam is instrumental music.
Su holding a microphone definitely
Doesn't matter
The answer is easy … YES!
She always has a microphone!
She has excellent mic technique but I love seeing her full expression!❤
Can say without a doubt… if she went headset mic she wouldn't stand still as often.
Hmmm, third option give Moa the mic 🤷♂️
Su is the main vocalist, so she gets the handheld microphone as it's got better sound quality and she can move it during singing for better vocal control. Moa and Momo got little lines, and are often either jammed by the backtracking vocals or told to lip-sync, probably due to their cardio intense choreography – in early days Moa and Yui struggled with breath control performing Onedari Daisakusen. So the headset is better choice for them, so they can have full body control during their dance routines.
I can’t imagine Su without a Mic, so my vote is for Su-Mic
🤘🦊🤘🦊
It's so weird to see her without a hand mic but at the same time I'd love her to not be holding one so she can fully dance more teehee
