We present the Autumn Festival to you from Anime Tokyo Station. Let’s get started by welcoming today’s guests! First up, we have Tomohiro Yamaguchi. Good evening, everyone! I’m voice actor Tomohiro Yamaguchi. Don’t worry, I’m not the groom! (laughs) It’s great to be here with you all. This is my first time ever wearing a white tuxedo in my life.
Never thought I’d get the chance to wear one like this! Right away, we’d like to give a brief introduction of Mr. Yamaguchi and his amazing work. Mr. Tomohiro Yamaguchi, from Tokyo.
/ Piccolo (Mini) And then
I played Yuu Asunaro. …
Yep, Shokatsu Mumei, the first anime where I got to play the main character. So many `non-human’ characters, aren’t there? (laughs) Today, I’m looking forward to talking with you a lot. Thank you. Let’s introduce our second guest — Ms. Kaori Nazuka! I’m Kaori Nazuka. Nice to meet you! Let me give you a quick introduction to Ms. Kaori Nazuka’s profile. Ms Kaori Nazuka, from Tokyo.
/ Eureka / UTA / Nunnally She’s been in so many works, I could go on and on! Today, we’d love to hear about anime and many other things from her. Anime Tokyo Station is celebrating its 2nd anniversary. As part of the celebration, we’re thrilled to have both of you join us. Congratulations!! Today, we’d like to talk about Anime Tokyo Station–what’s happened so far and what’s coming next. And we hope both of you can get to know it a little better, too. Oops! I didn’t study anything beforehand! But actually, you’re the studious type, right?? Yep, but this time, I purposely didn’t.
It turned out fine! Let me go over today’s program. Favorite Anime Talk!
Introduction to Roblox. Introduction .
And a reading of Vol.3. Just a little side note…
I’ve had the chance to work with both of you in separate readings before, and during those times, I thought, ‘With these two, it could be a really wonderful reading!’ So that’s why we invited you here today! First, let’s start with Mr. Yamaguchi.
What made you want to be a voice actor? There are so many to mention, but we’ve picked out a few highlights. , , —
some of these are works that Ms. Nazuka has also appeared in. It wasn’t until I became an adult that I really thought about being a voice actor as a career. Actually, I didn’t really watch much anime until high school. But as an adult, I started watching it properly from the beginning and I realized how amazing anime really is! After that, I got hooked!
I’d watch a whole season of shows every day!! About , it’s not just the anime itself, the voice actors also sing character songs and do other fun activities! And that’s when I thought, ‘Voice acting is really interesting!’ When I couldn’t stop watching anime, I came across . R2 was airing in real time, and I’d finish my part-time job early just to watch it! I got so hooked that I’d rush home just to watch the episodes…
This is how much I loved !! So, being here today, I can honestly say, is thanks in large part to Ms. Nazuka! Ms. Nazuka, please tell us about your story. Actually, this was my debut work. When I was in first year of middle school, I appeared in a musical, And Ms. Ayaka Saito, who I performed with back then, was already working on this anime, Because of that, Director Akitaro Daichi came to see our stage performance, And he scouted me. I auditioned for this anime, And got to play the roles of Hamster Kimi-chan and Koishi-kun. That led to Director Daichi inviting me to other projects, and introducing me to other directors as well. Before I knew it, I started working as a voice actor. You originally worked on stage, and then started doing voice work as well. Was it natural for you? No weird feeling about it? Of course, I’d always watched animation, from , , , all the way to . I used to watch anime every weekend, so I was already enjoying it, But when I went to the recording studio for ,
I realized, ‘Oh, this is how animation is made! It’s totally different from stage work, but I thought it was really fascinating. Though, for my very first on-air performance, I was so bad… My whole family flipped out in front of the TV, going, ‘Whaaaat?! But everyone feels a bit strange about their own voice, right? Maybe you’ve recorded yourself before and felt it too,
your voice just sounds weird to you, You think, ‘Mine’s weird, but everyone else’s sounds great! For me, after doing it for so long, I’ve gotten used to it. At first, I was really shocked, and I kept thinking,
Wow, I can’t believe they actually aired this! Even though I got the OK at the studio, I was just so relieved and happy! Hearing stories like that makes me think, ‘Ah, everyone goes through this,’
which is kind of comforting. And because of that, the next time I got to work on a project, I really felt I had to put in effort to get even a little closer to everyone else. So from that point, I studied a lot from the performances of other actors, And I’m still doing that today.
I really feel it was such a wonderful start for me. Next, we gave the two of them a little challenge, Please draw your favorite character. Let’s start with Ms. Nazuka…
Huh? I wonder why we’re going in this order? This is my favorite character. Ah, I get it! Can I guess? This is Sailor Mercury!? So cute! Wow, you drew it really well. Back when I was in elementary school… used to watch Sailor Moon, and Mercury was my favorite. When we played Sailor Moon pretend games,
I always got to be Mercury. I also watched it with my sisters. My first kiss was with Sailor Venus, through the TV— I kissed her like this. (laughs) How embarrassing… but Venus is just so cute! Next, Mr. Yamaguchi. Why are you laughing? What’s with that laugh? Ah, I get it, you know what this is, right?? ‘Let’s live together!’ This is Ashitaka and Yakul from . A delayed round of applause. (laughs) I also love , and I used to do impressions from it a lot Like what? Are we doing it here? If it doesn’t go well, we just won’t stream it. Quote: My name is Ashitaka. “So embarrassing…
No, no, It’s okay! Quote: San… where are you, San? I’ve also had the chance to perform on stage with Mr. Yoji Matsuda, who plays Ashitaka, Which was really wonderful. Both of you are really good at drawing. Do you really think so?
Of course we do! We really do! During the planning, we threw out some ideas, And I thought, ‘They don’t seem to mind at all.’ I wonder if they enjoyed it. Thanks for letting us see these precious illustrations from the two of you. Now, from our esteemed senior, We’ve received a message, so let’s take a look. 「Impressive work! Tokyo!」
I love that! 「Do your best AJA!」hits me in the heart every year. I don’t think anyone else could say it like Ms. Masako does. It really gives us energy, and makes me feel like I have to do my best. Anime Tokyo Station has so many visitors from overseas as well. And at this facility, they have communicators— staff who assist foreign visitors and guide them around the building. They also hold seminars, workshops, and various unique programs. Today, we have Ms. Noriko Namiki, who works as a navigator here. She hosts monthly anime viewing events, guiding visitors through the experience. She helps guests fully enjoy the charm of anime and conveys its wonderful aspects. Today, we’d like to share even more of what makes Anime Tokyo Station so special. Let’s start with this, please take a look. Roblox is an online platform where users can create and publish games, and play various games made by others. Apparently, nearly 100 million people enjoy it every day. One of the games on the platform is Anime Tokyo Station. This game recreates the floors of the station, allowing visitors to interact with each other and enjoy original games, like ANIME☆OTODAMA. I also participated in the voice recordings, so I hope you enjoy it! From November 3rd, a new game has launched: “ANIME☆SKILL TCG.” It’s designed to let players learn the animation production process, while collecting cards in a fun and interactive way. Because it’s in the metaverse, you can experience Anime Tokyo Station. And interact with people from all over the world.
Next, we’d like to introduce this: Anime Tokyo Station also distributes the Anime Tokyo Tour Map, issued by Tokyo Metropolis. The map has been updated to the 2025–2026 edition. It’s a handy summary for visitors. Mr. Yamaguchi, which area would that be for you? Tachikawa —totally spot on! I actually grew up in Tachikawa. When I watched the ‘A Certain Scientific’ series, I thought, ‘Ah, that’s Tachikawa!’ I was surprised to see a familiar Tachikawa on screen. For me, it’s Ikebukuro. Of course, that’s where Anime Tokyo Station is. Chuo and Chiyoda wards. I often go to the Hakuhinkan Theater, so there are tons of character goods, which makes it really fun. It stretches up to the 6th and 7th floors that you can barely see it all! When you’re stuck picking a present for a kid, this place is perfect. And then there’s the Tama area!
I know Tama really well. I’ve been to the Ghibli Museum and also Sanrio Puroland when I was a kid. You might even spot Nezumi Otoko lying around—
it’s quite a kind of town. If you mark the places you’ve been, you realize, ‘Hey, I’ve been to quite a few!’ Going around like that is really fun. Also, the special course
‘The Power to Make Anime—9 Lessons for the Future’ will be held on Saturday, November 29th. Participation requires an application, so be sure to check it out. That cleared up a lot, didn’t it? What’s happening on November 29th? Time for a test right now! Coming up, the three of us will perform a reading of <One Stormy Night> And we have the original author, Mr. Yuichi Kimura, with us today. He watches our readings every time, and for Anime Tokyo Station’s 2nd anniversary, we asked him to share a message. Anime and manga are truly at the heart of Japanese culture. Japan has many historical sites, like Nara and Kyoto, but… What Japan can really be proud of is its anime and manga. And it’s wonderful that the center of that is here! As Anime Tokyo Station, we’ll continue to do our best going forward! Next, we’ll have a photo session. And we have one more special guest… Little Maruko-chan!! Please give a warm round of applause! You’re starting at 6:00 on TV, and I’ll go from 6:30 on TV. (laughs) Alright, let’s start the photo session! is a picture book series by Mr. Yuichi Kimura. It’s extremely popular, with over 3.8 million copies in print. The series has been adapted into anime and many other forms of media, and it has a wide readership not only in Japan but also overseas. In Volume 1, a wolf and a goat take shelter from a storm in a small hut and meet for the first time. It was pitch dark, so they couldn’t see each other, but they talked a lot and quickly became friends. When they parted ways, they agreed on a secret code and promised to meet again the next day In Volume 2, when they reunite, they realize that one is a wolf and the other is a goat. Even so, they remain good friends and set off to the rocky hills with their lunch boxes. However, along the way, the wolf drops the lunch, and they have to continue on hungry… The goat is the wolf’s favorite food, yet the wolf holds back. “They make another promise, asking, ‘So, when shall we meet again?’” Today, we’ll present Volume 3, . Ms. Kaori Nazuka will play the goat,
and Mr. Tomohiro Yamaguchi will play the goat’s friend. And I, Miina Tominaga, will be the wolf and narrator. — Written by Yuichi Kimura. At last, the afternoon sun peeked through the gaps in the clouds. The rows of poplar trees cast long shadows, and the greenery along the path shone vividly. May, where are you going? The fat goat asked the goat climbing the hill. Huh? Uh… to Soyosoyo Pass. What?! That area is sometimes where wolves show up! Yes, but I promised to meet my friend there. I see… but be careful. Someone got eaten by a wolf there for lunch, you know. Haha, don’t worry, Tap. The fat goat’s name was Tap. Tap was always worried about May’s carefree nature. Okay, okay, I’ll be careful. May smiled at Tap and began climbing the hill. Tap, being older, had always looked out for May since they were little. Feeling Tap’s worried gaze on her back, May hurried toward Soyosoyo Pass. And the friend May was waiting for at Soyosoyo Pass… turned out to be a wolf. Hey there! Sorry to keep you waiting. No worries, I just got here myself. The wolf smiles shyly. I ran into a friend on the way, and they said, ‘May’s so carefree, I’m worried about her.’ Oh, my name’s May, by the way. May, huh? Nice to meet you. That’s a very goat-like name. I’m Gab! Pleasure! Oh, that sounds like a strong name. But it’s kind of strange, isn’t it? Here we are, finally sharing our names. We even went on a picnic together the other sunny day! Haha, that’s right. And then my friend told me to watch out for wolves. Hehe, I couldn’t possibly tell them I was about to meet that wolf! Hehe, same here. No way could I tell anyone I’m friends with a goat. It’s our little secret, right? May whispers, and Gab smiles shyly. Talking like that makes my heart race! Uh-oh… I gotta pee real quick, excuse me. Gab scurries off into the woods behind them. It was at that moment… Look, Tap is coming up the hill! Wh-what’s the matter, Tap?”
May rushes over anxiously. Tap huffs and pants, and May can’t understand what he’s saying. Are you okay, Tap? The one who got eaten by a wolf was standing right where you are now. So I figured, if you’re waiting for a friend, it’s better to hide in the bushes. Got it, Tap! I’ll do just that. Thanks! Make sure to be careful, okay? Okay! Tap leaves, and at the same time, Gab emerges from the woods. Sorry to keep you waiting! Gab smiles cheerfully, apparently noticing nothing. I just found something amazing! Gab’s eyes sparkle as he begins to talk. Just a little way up there, water was bubbling out from between the rocks, sparkling beautifully! Oh, that’s called the ‘Igusuri Spring’ around here. It’s really good for your health! “For your health?”
“Yes! It’s not only tasty, but it also really boosts your appetite. Haha, appetite? Well, I always have an appetite… Gab almost says ‘a few goats could drink it all,’ but quickly covers his mouth. May can’t help but widen her eyes. Over Gab’s shoulder, May sees Tap coming up the hill again. Hey, Gab… why don’t we go have some water together? Startled, May quickly invited Gab to join her. Then, how about we go on a count of three? Yes—ready, set, go!‼ At May’s call, Gab dashed into the woods. May followed right after him. But just as she was about to enter the grove, she turned her head for a second… May! You shouldn’t be standing out there! Their eyes met. May froze in place. Didn’t I tell you to stay hidden in the bushes? What if there’s a wolf nearby? There’s no wolf around here, really! Oh, May… that carefree side of you… That’s what worries me the most. May’s heart pounded.
What if Gab came bursting out of the woods, saying, “You’re late, you slowpoke!”? If a wolf jumps out of that forest, we’ll be in real trouble, you know. Y-yes… you’re absolutely right. Just thinking about it makes my chest hurt. Oh, right! I came to tell you something important. Do you remember I told you to hide in the bushes? The ones under the osmanthus tree are best. Their strong scent will mask your goat smell. Well, well, got it, I’ll do that right away. But Tap, please be careful too. Only after seeing May crawl into the thick bush did Tap finally relax and head down the slope. When May turned around with a sigh of relief… You’re late! Gab trotted out of the woods, dripping with water. Ahh, that water—it was so cold and smooth! I drank it all up. So, what happened while I was gone? I was waiting for you for so long. Sorry, I ran into… a friend. A friend? Oh yeah, I did see a fat, uh— Oh, I mean, a friendly-looking goat running nearby. That, um, plump goat… is … my frie… Before she could say more, May gasped— Tap was coming back! Gab! Quick! over here! She grabbed Gab’s paw and pulled him into the bush. Ah, May! Good, you’re hiding just like I told you. Tap was already right in front of them. How can I do… May turned to look—
Gab was sitting with his back turned, a big magnolia leaf over his head Oh, I see you’ve got company there too. Just then, a thick cloud drifted across the sun. The light dimmed, and Gab’s figure faded into the shadow Hey, I’m Tap, May’s friend. Tap pulled himself into the bush. A… and I’m Cap, May’s friend, too! Gab pinched his nose and spoke in a strained voice. May and I go way back, you see. She’s such a carefree soul… it’s hard not to relax when you’re with her, you know. Y…yeah, same here! Anyway, tell something important, you two should stay hidden for a while. I think I saw a wolf in the woods. Okay, thank you, Tap. Actually… it might already be close! I can smell it—faint, but it’s there. May, could you check outside for me? May hesitated, but did as she was told. Still, she couldn’t help but worry about the two behind her. Whew… I’ve been walking back and forth over this hill all day.
My legs are killing me. Tap stretched his leg — right in front of Gab’s nose. Gab’s stomach growled loudly. (May thinking) Oh no… that water he drank earlier —it must’ve made him hungry! You know what’s terrible? May heard the conversation from Tap and Gab. Yes? Wolves! Those wolves always after us goats. W-well… can’t really blame ‘em. Growl… Huh?! Y-yeah… they’re so cruel it makes you wanna hate ‘em! Growl… Right? Even if it’s for survival, the look on their faces when they chase us…it’s terrifying. Yeah, well… I mean, I get so full of this hunger sometimes… Growl… Huh?! I-I mean, I get filled with anger! Growl… Exactly. That’s why May and I always talk about it, you know. The world would be better off without wolves like that! Growllll… Huh? There’s that strange rumbling sound again… Tap looked around the bush, puzzled. To be honest, I’ve always hated the look on a wolf’s face. Their eyes are slanted, mouths all rough, noses so ugly… it’s hard to believe they’re even the same kind of animal! Wwwwww! May peeked quietly, and saw Gab clenching his fists with a strained face. Nobody in their right mind would want to be friends with a creature like that. Gab, glaring at Tap from behind, finally stood up. His sharp fangs glinted as he opened his jaws wide, looking fearsome. Watch out!
May leapt instinctively, covering Tap with her body. Hey, May, what’s wrong? Seeing May like that, Gab let out a long, sorrowful howl. Then, tears streaming, he darted into the forest. Eek! Hearing the wolf’s voice so close, Tap bolted without a second thought. Once Tap had disappeared from the mountain pass, May dashed into the forest as well. At the base of a Himalayan cedar, Gab stood quietly, all alone. Finally… it’s just the two of us. As May ran up to him, Gab turned his back. What’s the matter? Well… from your perspective… I’m just a terrible wolf, right? My eyes are slanted, my mouth is rough, my nose is ugly… N-no, that’s not true! Even if we meet like this… it doesn’t change anything. That’s just how it is… That’s why… we’re , aren’t we? ? Yep! That… really makes my heart race. So… can we meet again?! Of course! Even though I’m a wolf?? And even though I’m a goat? Then it’s settled! Cause we’re , after all! The sun’s already starting to set. Oh? You’re right… it’s time to head home already. Goodbye, . Bye! Through a break in the clouds, the setting sun illuminated the two of them. May watched Gab, who kept turning back again and again… May waved her hand for as long as she could, seeing him off. Tap ran down the mountain pass and turned around in astonishment. Could it really be… that May…?! Tap looked at the two and thought to himself: May raised her fist, and the wolf ran away! Hahaha! That wolf kept glancing back, frustrated, as he ran. Huh… May really is amazing!! Eventually, Gab disappeared into the shadow of the mountain. Phew… what a relief. Truly a relief. Being right in front of Mr. Kimura… …there aren’t many situations that make me this nervous. Let’s welcome Mr. Kimura back on stage! Mr. Yuichi Kimura! Thank you very much! That was wonderful! Ms. Tominaga, your Gab was amazing. At first, in volumes 1 and 2, I didn’t play Gab. I really wanted Ms. Nazuka to play May. And Tap is such a kind older brother figure—like, “You’re here again?”— He’s a key character in this story, so I wanted Mr. Yamaguchi to take the role. It was really quite funny at times. I caught a glimpse and could hear the Mr. Kimura’s laughter. Oh, that’s a relief. You only learn the names in the third volume, right?
Yes, that’s right. They didn’t have names in the first volume?
Exactly. Once there were two goats, we had to be able to tell them apart. And since they’re goats, May’s name just came naturally— Felt like a real goat’s name. I hope to continue playing these roles, so thank you for your support moving forward. How did everyone enjoy the ? Our two guests really gave it their all. Finally, let’s hear a message from them. Ms. Kaori Nazuka, please. Today, it was so much fun to talk about the anime with all of you. From now on, I want to keep making wonderful animated works, and I hope we can share them with people all over the world.
Please continue to support the anime. Thank you very much! Next, Mr. Yamaguchi, please. Even before I aimed to become a voice actor, I had admired the seniors performing here today, and it was such an honor to read in front of the original author himself. I thought maybe my story could encourage anyone aiming to enter the anime industry. If it helps them in any way or gives them courage, that’s why I stood here today. I hope to continue helping make anime even more exciting.
Thank you very much for today. Hope to meet everyone again! Thank you so much!
