Today is the day I go on summer vacation The bed just won’t let me go.. But I have to travel anyway! (A full stretch to wake up my mind) Currently the time is 6:20 AM Where are you all going for this summer vacation? I decided on Gangneung (Packing my bags diligently) The camera I’m bringing for this trip is the EOS R50 V I’ll head out quickly to catch the train on time An exciting journey ahead. Just made it to the train on time! Lucky me~ Nowadays, trains have phone chargers! It takes quite a while to get from here to Gangneung. A little straw hat I brought for today. (Surprisingly, it’s quite stable..?) Mountains, rivers, and cities. The constantly changing scenery outside the train. I’ll do some work in the meantime. What will Gangneung look like this summer? It’s my first visit to Gangneung. I’ve heard the sea is so beautiful, I’m curious. The distance that felt so far suddenly feels close! Time to blend into the crowd filled with travel excitement. 176 Yongji-ro, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Gangneung Station. The sea visible from the taxi window. How can the sea be this blue..! The salty smell of the sea, felt through its vivid colors. Summer! Colorful shells that make my heart flutter. Always seeing the never-ending buildings on the horizon, but seeing the clear boundary between the sky and the sea, I feel the burdens of my heart scattered like foam. Located on the eastern side of the Korean Peninsula, Gangneung has a lot of granite. It’s said to have been formed about 100 million years ago during the Mesozoic when magma cooled. These granites must have been seen by dinosaurs… With the nice weather, let’s capture the mood randomly..(?) Maybe this marks the distance from Gangneung. The exotic buildings that feel like being abroad. And the roses on the street that caught my eye.. (It’s a bit unfamiliar to me, so I need some time to adapt to the camera..) ‘Jinto-baegi,’ a bird-shaped pole erected wishing for peace in the village. And this is the Gangneung tractor.. Doodoodoodoodoo.. (Tractor: Don’t stress me out and move along…) Try to find the hidden frog. The difficulty seems too low.. Try to find the sparrow! – Seems it’s not opening.. Gradually, I’m getting hungrier.. I hurry towards a popular restaurant! 2 Gangneung-daero 587beon-gil, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Gangneung Yuhwan Restaurant. A restaurant famous for its signature crab sauce. Selling various seafood like shrimp sauce and abalone sauce. Soy sauce marinated crab is one of my top five favorite foods. Soy sauce marinated crab & shrimp sauce set. I just can’t.. resist this.. Plus some buttery rice – Mixing crab broth with egg butter rice is really delicious. I really love soy sauce marinated crab… I’m very happy. The finishing touch is, of course, seafood ramen. I ate well and I’m full! Right after that, I’m headed to the next spot. 24 Ojukheon-gil 3139beon-gil, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Ojukheon. The place where the Joseon scholar Yi I and his mother Shin Saimdang lived. The name Ojukheon comes from the black bamboo (ojuk). In fact, black bamboo grows around Ojukheon. I’m seeing black bamboo for the first time.. it’s fascinating. The main character of our country’s 5,000 won bill. One of the oldest wooden structures from the mid-Joseon period. Following the traces of Shin Saimdang and Yi I, you can glimpse the Joseon era. This thing hanging from the ceiling is called ‘Deulchang,’ a window letting in air and sunlight. (Cannot stand the unbearable heat, so I decided to tie my hair up..) A small pavilion in Joseon that houses the writings of the king, Yeogeogak (御製閣). Walking around gives a glimpse into the lifestyle of the Joseon nobility. Flowers blooming along the way to the next place. My heart flutters with the cool breeze, shaking like reeds. The next destination at the end of my footsteps is.. 745 Jukheondong, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Gyeongpo Ecological Reservoir. Trees lined up endlessly. This place is famous for its Metasequoia road. I need to create a piece of work this time, so I’m taking pictures diligently.. haha. The road for selfies is long.. and long! Clear landscapes that make me forget the city noise. I’m going to make a short video focusing on my Gangneung trip. I capture the beautiful scenery with my camera along the way. Straw hat and a white dress.. a good choice! The straw hat popped off my head in search of freedom. – It felt a bit like a movie! (??) Sceneries I encountered on the way to the next destination. Wow.. who are you? Finally arrived at Gangneung Seon-Gyojang. (I’m surprised seeing such a low and big sign for the first time.) 63 Unjeong-gil, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Gangneung Seon-Gyojang. A traditional house of the Yangban from the Joseon era, Gangneung Seon-Gyojang. Built by the Lee Nae-bang family 300 years ago (1703~1781). Here, you can glimpse the life of the upper class during the late Joseon period. – The scenery is lovely. This area is open to visitors and Some parts of the building are not open to the public and are managed by descendants living there. (I’ll upload the photos I took to the YouTube community!) The mission area is so large that it really feels like a village. During the Joseon Dynasty, there was a regulation that houses could not exceed 100 rooms. The Gangneung mission house is said to have been built with a total of 99 rooms. – Greetings from the noble house’s daughter (playful addict) – Welcome to our home (not) The pine trees visible here and there Since ancient times, pine trees have been considered as a symbol of a household’s prestige. The Lee family, a prominent local family and village leaders in Gangneung. – I smell sweet potatoes roasting somewhere. (It seems to be the smell of wood..) (As I slowly turn red in the heat..) Could it be a sign of courtship? Hat: Save me a bit, please ㅠㅠ But that bird has already captured my eyes.. Singing proudly from a high place. I love hearing the chirping of birds wherever I go. If you go up along the forest path, you can overlook the mission house. This beautiful place ‘Hwalraejeong’ (活來亭) Meaning ‘a pavilion where living water flows’, was a place where nobles used to enjoy poetry and tea. Hwalraejeong is considered a place where energy converges, located at the center of the mission house. What a wonderful place – The gentle wind blowing seems to guide my weary body, drained by the sun. Nature sometimes feels like our hometown. The leaves almost seem to be clapping. 643 Unjeong-dong, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Gyeongpo Gashi Wetland. An ecological wetland where the natural monument, the Gashi lotus, grows, after a long walk. When the time comes, lotus flowers will bloom beautifully on that peak too. A solitary, elegant heron. And little birds fluttering around it. The river is split into two, with a grassy field in between. Gangneung is the hometown of Heo Gyun, so there’s even a statue of Hong Gil-dong here. 20-5 Eohul-ri, Seongsan-myeon, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Daegwallyeong Pine Forest. A dense forest of Korean red pine, over 80 years old. It usually takes 30 to over 100 years for a pine tree to grow. You can feel the ancient times captured in the forest path. Finally.. I’ve found an oasis. 20-5 Nanseolheon-ro 219beon-gil, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Café Deokdeok. Café Deokdeok, created from a remodeled house. With a clean interior, plants stand out everywhere. Americano, mugwort latte, chocolate terrine, and custard pudding. A moment to cool off and recharge. Stepping outside, I see the sun setting. I found a props shop while heading out for dinner. 351-2 Changhae-ro, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Glass Ball Play. A shop selling various handmade glass craft items. A store selling various art pieces made of glass. The blue and transparent appearance looks just like sea water solidified. Even without glass, there are various craft items like pottery and candles. A little sea turtle that stirs my heart.. A case to collect shells found at the beach. (Looking at glass accessories..) (Should I buy a ring or not?) (I think I won’t wear it often, so I’ll pass~) It truly feels like a play with glass balls, just as the name suggests. (Even seaweed is made of glass..!) (The book with the same name ‘Hermann Hesse – Glass Bead Game’) Coming out of the shop, I immediately encountered a retriever. It seems hungry, holding its food bowl in its mouth. (Since it has an owner, I couldn’t give it food freely..) For dinner today, I plan to take sushi to go. Wow.. they’re handing me the fish right after catching it..! I’m also getting some snacks from the house next door. Hehe.. A cute dog named ‘Tangerine’. The night sea I arrived at after packing the food. The traces of the waves quickly disappear. I again take the dex posture.. The sea that shone during the day is now as black as the night sky. To a fish, is the sea like the sky? Thus, the first day of the trip comes to a close. What kind of adventure awaits tomorrow? DAY 2 Today is the second day of the Gangneung trip. Busy preparations for going out from the morning. (Using tricks to make long hair look like a bob..) All set and ready! – Let’s go! A taxi speeding along the coastline. (Plans to create a bob with long hair are made in the car..) Gangneung Station! Here we meet again from yesterday! Isn’t the wind too strong? I came to catch a train to Jeongdongjin. Gangneung is 1.7 times larger than Seoul, so even within Gangneung, taking the train is faster for long distances. so even within Gangneung, taking the train is faster for long distances. (The sea gets obscured and reappears—what fun!) Please take a look at this beautiful sea.. (The backlight makes it hard to see well on screen hehe;;) – We need to eat.. When I’m full, I have a habit of dancing the ‘Kioff – Igloo’ dance. As you can see, I can’t dance well.. ✿ Arrived at Jeongdongjin Station! ✿ Jeongdongjin!! (Jeongdongjin is a bit further up.. ) – Are we going to eat? (important) We must hurry to eat…(I’m hungry) A flower with roots in the bald mountain. A quiet road rich in greenery. What feels familiar to some is all new to travelers. 1011 Heonhwa-ro, Gangdong-myeon, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Imoné Restaurant, Gangneung Hwangtae Jeongsik Grilled hwangtae, a specialty of Gangneung Bubbling hot doenjang jjigae Gangneung is close to the hwangtae production site, so you can enjoy fresh hwangtae. I was so hungry that I gulped it down. NA It was a good meal! The next place I’m headed to is a café! (I can’t open my eyes because of the sunlight) 1458 Yulgok-ro, Gangdong-myeon, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Stay Interview This place is famous for its café with a view of the sea. I guess I have a bit of an attention-seeking trait… It’s clever to have a mirror by the entrance to catch people’s eyes… This is quite an unusual café… You can see the sea even inside, but sitting on the terrace is definitely better, right? I ordered milk tea. (I love milk tea) (Pretending to know something without really understanding) Milk tea and Americano The milk tea is refreshing, and the view is beautiful, making me feel good…^^ (I had a bit of an awkward milk tea explanation, so I decided not to write about it lol) The most famous photo zone in this café is this spot. Jeongdongjin Beach seen between the wooden huts There’s a small hill next to the terrace where you can overlook the sea. (Came up with a silly joke after seeing this beautiful view) – What if Karina is looking for a knife in the kitchen? (Don’t…) – Is there a knife? I think I’ve overheated… On the way to Jeongdongjin Beach, our next destination We’re having an ice cream time to cool down. We’ve suddenly arrived at Jeongdongjin Beach. I cautiously approach the sea. The sea water is cool enough to forget the heat. A small shell stuck to the granite. Wow… a seaweed-eating discovery! ~ During the meal ~ (Tying my hat to stop it from flying off like yesterday) The seaside is quite windy. Can’t I make seaweed soup with this seaweed? I tried to jump coolly… But with my clothes today, that’s just not happening, so I come down quietly. (Since it’s hot, I leave my cardigan on the sand for a bit…) – I’m definitely going to get sunburned today. – (Cardigan) That’s mine! – (Not on the sand) You should put it over here. – Thank you. (Relocating my cardigan to a sand-free spot) There’s a section where the sand suddenly gets really deep. Waiting for the waves Striking a pose (Pose source: Fake Man Dex) The waves rolling in look like thin threads. (Distracted while searching for pretty shells…) I’m thinking of making pretty crafts from the collected shells… heehee. (Using a twig for a trick) Small pieces made from weathered glass. …It can’t be the shells someone ate and threw away, right? It really looks like shark teeth! It really looks like shark teeth! Shell collecting… is nice… The problem is I spent an hour collecting shells on this hot day… – Shell collecting should be banned. Flowers blooming along the beach. And I, having overheated… Still… that huge ship is waiting for me. Actually, this is a resort, and we’re not going there haha. I’m heading to the marine fan road near here. (I usually don’t get this red… spent too long shell collecting) – Terraport! Terraport exists to prevent erosion of dikes or breakwaters. Finally, the large rock face is gradually revealing itself. 50-13 Jeongdongjin-ri, Gangdong-myeon, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Jeongdong Simgok Marine Fan Road A coastal promenade connecting Jeongdongjin with Simgok Port in Gangneung The reason this path is special is because of the ‘coastal terrace’. Millions of years ago, the crust uplifted, creating layered land along the beach, and this area is the best-preserved coastal terrace topography in our country, so it has been designated as a natural monument. (Building a little stone tower) The cool sea on the left, and the sheer cliff on the right. The scenery you see while walking between them is truly breathtaking. (Please don’t lean right next to me; I get startled and sit up suddenly.) You all should also enjoy this wonderful view. Due to the terrain’s nature, there are many stairs and steep sections, so be careful. Cliffs and rocks spreading out like a fan. In front of nature, I feel infinitely small ~ Yet, being born human and coming to see the marine fan road and being able to leave a record like this is so nice. Do birds just hang out in the water too? By the way… after wandering around for a long time, I’m so hungry… 21 Geumseong-ro, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Jungang Market I’m planning to pick up dinner at the market today! As expected from a traditional market in the heart of Gangneung, it’s crowded. From meals to snacks and local specialties, everything is gathered in one place. How can I resist this hotteok…? (Buying it right away) Summer hotteok dipped in ice cream… the best! The central market is also famous for dried seafood. (It’s wild ginseng..!) Tteokbokki that catches the eye anywhere. Mouth-watering pig’s trotter and seaweed chips. This place sells seaweed chips, and the name is quite cute (Tigak Taegak!) Seaweed chips are one of Korea’s traditional snacks. It’s made by coating glutinous rice paste on seaweed, drying, and frying it crispy. (It was so delicious that I bought a bag hehe.) It’s my first time seeing squid sundae, and it’s a famous eatery here. The squid is stuffed full of meat. On my way to wrap the squid sundae and buy fried chicken. ~ A place visited by BTS’s V ~ (Waiting.. the line is long, but it’s moving quickly.) (They handed me a paper with the menu written on it.) Finally bought everything and came out into the crowd! (Both hands full of delicious food.) A rare scenery discovered on the way back. A family of swallows nesting under a tent. A chatty couple of swallows. It’s hard to see swallows in Seoul, but there are loads in Gangneung. (Swallows suddenly stopped when I was watching.. better move quickly.) (Just pretending…) The taxi I was waiting for has arrived. Back to Gyeongpo Beach! Accidentally got a bit of sand on the sundae box haha; It’s my first time having squid sundae, and it’s chewy and delicious. (Pelican-style meal) Ending with a cold sweet rice drink bought at the market. – What’s that shimmering over there in the distance? Tomorrow is already the last day of the trip. I’m wrapping up today with a gentle sunset and the night sea. Last Day Morning is bustling with preparations for going out again. – Today, I am going for a lip corner makeup. (I saw a video of lip corner makeup somewhere..) – It will help make me look happier. – Because smiling is nice. – Ta-da! (My face is a bit puffy in the morning.) The weather is a bit cloudy today. It’s quite a windy day. A baby swallow waiting for its parents. Is that you? A self-driving bus on the road. Eating sundubu ice cream before lunch. 15 Donghwa Garden, 77-길 Chodang Sundubu-ro, Gangneung, Gangwon-do. Gangneung Jjamppong Sundubu, Donghwa Garden. Donghwa Garden is famous as the original jjamppong sundubu restaurant. “Eoseo Ouriya” is a Gangneung dialect for “Welcome.” It’s often featured on broadcasts, and it receives the Blue Ribbon every year for being a popular place, but the problem is… the wait is long.. Are you going to wait? The one who waits gets to have jjamppong sundubu..! 71st in line! I can do it! It’s not that I’m super hungry, but I want to try it once. The waiting time has passed, and finally, I’m allowed in! Jjamppong sundubu. Jjamppong containing tofu made directly at the store. (Over-the-top legend) Now I understand why my friends insisted I try it. It was a warm and delicious meal – A classic car spotted while walking down the street. It’s perfectly coordinated with me! Tried to achieve “Kurumi hair” that gets to you.. Yes.. Today’s agenda is exploring accessory shops! 3-호 1st floor, 194 Imyeong-ro, Gangneung, Gangwon-do. Space of Thoughts. A long time in the Space of Thoughts. As you can tell from the name, it’s a shop selling vintage items. Treasures that show signs of being cherished by the owner. After buying a little ring, I head for the next place. 2-호 1st floor, 192 Imyeong-ro, Gangneung, Gangwon-do. San Soul (山). A workshop called San Soul that operates with the heart of holding a small exhibition. Tiny, adorable accessories tug at my heartstrings. (Is it my heart that’s trembling, or my wallet…?) A unique clock and an incense holder shaped like a book. A ceramic book that’s shaped like a house… so cute! Postcards with messages and even a ring holder. (Holding a house-shaped spoon rest, debating whether to buy it…) But this acorn magnet is also too cute..! This picture frame is tempting too.. this place is really cute and dangerous. A holder inspired by mushrooms. They gave me a discount for the mini frame I chose because it had a scratch. Every item becomes secondhand the moment I buy it. So off to the next accessory shop… 2nd floor, 193 Imyeong-ro, Gangneung, Gangwon-do. Oaz. Oaz operates a gallery and accessory shop together. A husband who paints and a wife who designs. This brand is operated by both of them together. Various paintings filled with unique imaginations. I bought a cat postcard from among them. It’s a wonderful place full of romance. The next place is finally the last accessory shop! 16 Imyeong-ro 180 beon-gil, Gangneung, Gangwon-do. Le Bon Magel. Le Bon Magel is the largest accessory shop in Gangneung, spanning four floors. They mainly sell kitchenware (the best!). (Floor guide… all shops.) 2F (After discovering the enamel bowl I’ve wanted, I’m lost in admiration..) (Self-control!) 3F Three floors of various dishes (Shock!) Found the Otenetti pot that I couldn’t buy because it was sold out I really wanted this… you are my destiny! 4F Unlike levels 1-3, this place sells garden supplies Lucky to see the beautiful garden through the window It was a beautiful place (Wallet: haha..) – Do you have this in new? (Display item) (No new products, bought the display item at a discount) Precious kitchen items.. Let’s go home~ Now the last course! It’s time to go for dinner Under the Sea, 130-1 Toseong-ro, Gangneung, Gangwon-do (Stopped dancing because the owner is right in front…) Under the Sea is famous for its boiling seafood It’s a dish where you cook various seafood in spicy sauce (first time eating it) Boiling seafood Just put all the seafood in one pot and let it boil …It seems like it’s going to be so delicious…? It’s so tasty that I definitely want to make it at home later I feel like all the accumulated fatigue during the trip is disappearing… (The corn is really!!!! Delicious) Finished with pasta – (Fantastic ending) This is how my first trip to Gangneung ended I’ll cherish today’s memories and make the most of this summer! Passing through the blue sea and forest, I’m back to familiar cityscapes Traveling feels like a journey to see familiar everyday life in a new light Back to the beloved daily life! Thank you to everyone who tuned in today Wishing you all peaceful days Se e you again next time! Goodbye –
