Hey everyone! Today, I’m heading to Yeonhui-dong! Right now, I’m standing at Exit 3 of Hongdae-ipgu Station, and I’ll be starting today’s journey from here. I looked up a bit about Yeonhui-dong, and it turns out this quiet residential neighborhood is filled with artsy spots and charming little shops. Totally my vibe, right? ❤️ I can’t wait to see what kind of neighborhood it is.
Let’s go explore! Gyeongui Line Forest Trail is a 6.3km-long urban park that began construction in 2012 and was completed in 2016. It’s part of a city regeneration project that transformed the old above-ground Gyeongui Line railway into a public green space after the tracks were moved underground in 2008.
And look at this beautiful spot! This path is called the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail. This area used to be an active railway line until it went underground in 2005, and now it’s been turned into this lovely pedestrian park. This area used to be an active railway line until it went underground in 2005, and now it’s been turned into this lovely pedestrian park. It kind of gives off Log Road Daikanyama vibes, don’t you think? And okay, as a foreigner, I can’t help it, right?
There’s something a little confusing I realized! And okay, as a foreigner, I can’t help it, right?
There’s something a little confusing I realized! Yeonhui-dong and Yeonnam-dong are actually two separate neighborhoods! The area you first see when you come out of Exit 3 at Hongdae-ipgu Station? That’s Yeonnam-dong. But if you cross the street and head further up,
you’ll reach Yeonhui-dong. So basically, Yeonnam-dong sits just south of Yeonhui-dong! And did you know? There’s no such thing as Yeonhui Station! That’s why the best way to get there is by taking a bus from Hongdae-ipgu Station. But since the weather is perfect today, I’m going to enjoy a slow walk along the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail. There are cute cafés and a beautiful path.
It’s absolutely perfect for a walk. And to my Japanese subscribers, today,
I’m heading to Yeonhui-dong! I started from Hongdae-ipgu Station, which is already a well-known tourist spot, right? But Yeonhui-dong area, Is still a bit under the radar. This is actually my first time visiting, I heard it’s a quiet residential area with charming art spaces and small boutique shops hidden throughout the neighborhood. So I think the fun here is really in walking around and discovering those spots one by one. You can either walk from Hongdae-ipgu Station or take a short bus ride, so it’s perfect to combine with a trip to Hongdae! You can either walk from Hongdae-ipgu Station or take a short bus ride, so it’s perfect to combine with a trip to Hongdae! Q. Isn’t it kind of amazing to have a peaceful walking path like this in the middle of the city? A. Oh, Absolutely~ totally agree. Yeonhui-dong has that perfect balance of a well-developed city infrastructure and a calm, relaxed atmosphere. Even the tulips were blooming beautifully! Wow, look at those tulips! So pretty! It was such a warm, peaceful walk. 😊 Now I’m at the underpass that leads into Yeonhui-dong. Guys, I cross through here You’re officially in the neighborhood! Yeonhui-dong is known for its theaters and independent bookstores, and right in front of me is the Yeonhui Arts Theater. Yeonhui Arts Theater is a flexible, multi-purpose performance space that opened in 2018. It’s located right here in Yeonhui-dong and hosts a mix of theater, dance, music, and more. Laika Cinema, opened in 2021, is a cultural space that screens independent and art films. In the basement, they have a state of the art sound and video setup for the theater, and on the second floor, there’s a beautifully curated café space called Mog.
Just a 2-minute walk from here is Laika Cinema. The vibe is super modern and stylish. I saw posters for films I’d never heard of before,
lots of artistic, creative works. They were even showing Swing Girls, which I loved!
Can’t believe they screen Japanese films too. And then I saw a listing for Land of the Brave, filmed in the Namibian desert, such a stunning, artistic piece.❤ And then I saw a listing for Land of the Brave, filmed in the Namibian desert, such a stunning, artistic piece.❤ It reminded me of when I first saw the Korean film Oasis. I was blown away. It showed me how film could express society in such a raw and moving way. I found out later that it was even adapted into a book. 印象的な映画だったけど本にもありますね。 Let’s go up to the second floor! You know, in Japan there are actually more indie cinemas than you’d expect, but here in Korea, they’re still relatively rare
so this place feels really special. The space had this sleek, futuristic interior that almost felt like being in a sci-fi film. Even the system that delivers your drink was cool and innovative. I spent some quiet time just soaking in the atmosphere of such a thoughtfully designed space. 😊 Honestly, this is the kind of place that makes you want to watch a film the moment you walk in. I think I’ve found my new go-to spot for cultural outings! There are actually a lot of Chinese restaurants in this neighborhood! I looked into it and found out that several Chinese schools originally based in Myeong-dong.. moved into this area which led to a small Chinatown-like community forming here, filled with great Chinese food spots. Today, I’m visiting a place called Jinbo! You can tell just by the size of the menu, it’s thick,
meaning tons of options! They even offer full course meals, and the restaurant itself is spacious and super clean. Here’s what we ordered: 2 orders of Samseon Ganjjajang, 1 Meat Jjamppong, and Sweet and Sour Pork (small). Everything’s out now, and we went with the ganjjajang,
the dry version of black bean noodles. This is the portion for two people, plus jjamppong and tangsuyuk…! So happy we got to try everything we wanted! I’ve had regular jjajangmyeon a lot because I love it, but this is actually my first time trying ganjjajang,
so I’m curious to see how the flavor compares. Wow, it’s loaded with onions! And I think I see shrimp too,
this looks amazing. Mmm… the flavor is totally different!
(Crunch crunch) You can probably hear how crunchy the veggies are! From now on, I’m 100% team ganjjajang! And honestly, this place feels like a hidden gem. Why? Because as someone who loves jjajangmyeon, I’ve been to a lot of Korean-Chinese restaurants on my own, but these noodles are especially springy and chewy! I really believe noodles make or break the dish,
and this place nailed it. The texture is perfect, and the flavor is even better
because it’s something I’m already familiar with. Now onto the jjamppong! It’s not as spicy as I expected! but the broth is full of seafood flavor, even though it’s a meat-based jjamppong! 😊 The noodles are slightly slippery and super tasty, And the soup soaks into them, which makes every bite even better. Let’s pour the sauce in half so I can choose it!
As for the tangsuyuk, I decided to pour the sauce on half, and dip the other half. haha (Crunch crunch) The tangy sweetness of the sauce really enhances the flavor, delicious! Q. Why do you like jjajangmyeon? It’s that unique sweetness and it’s kind of addictive! But seriously, what is this flavor? Why does it have this color and taste? What is this stuff??? The base is chunjang (a fermented black bean paste!) Whenever I talk to friends who’ve never tried Korean jjajangmyeon, they always ask, “What does it taste like?” Is it like doenjang (soybean paste)? I don’t think so…
It’s definitely not doenjang-based, but it’s still really hard to explain. Anyway, time to really dig in! I got so caught up eating that suddenly, boom! empty bowl. Let’s wrap it up with a nice cup of tea. That was such a hearty and satisfying lunch 🙂 Since we just had a super filling meal, it’s time to officially start exploring Yeonhui-dong! To my Japanese Mint viewers, Yeonhui-dong is known for its hidden little treasure shops. Today, I want to introduce one of the most popular spots! Honestly, if you didn’t know it was here,
you might just walk right past it. There’s a tiny sign! Let’s head upstairs to Posset! Even with the small signage, people seem to have no problem finding it. It’s a cozy stationery and gift shop filled with postcards and greeting cards! Let me pick one out 💌❤ I fell in love with a card that shows two characters hugging! They even have a little writing station here, so I’ll take a moment to write a letter. And… ta-da, all done! Dear my Mint fans, it’s been about 6 years since we started this YouTube channel together, and I truly think it’s thanks to all of you that I’ve been able to do this for so long and enjoy every moment. Thank you always. Let’s continue to share beautiful feelings and stay together for a long time. Next stop is Objek Sangga, where you can make your own custom accessories! They have all sorts of products you can personalize to match your taste 👀 Oh, is this what I think it is? A reusable cup holder?
That’s such a great idea. You can continuously use it! Practical and cute? Love it! I’m also going to get a little character to decorate the cup holder. There’s so much cute stuff here, it’s honestly hard to choose…
I think I need to take a full lap and come back. Haha. Browsing around and making my final decision After narrowing it down to options 1, 2, and 3… I’m going with option 3! Once you’ve paid, just hand over your selection to the staff they’ll use a hot iron to press the patch onto your item. They finish it off by pressing it one more time
with the remaining heat. It gets really hot, so be careful and let it cool for about 5 minutes before using! Thank you! It’s done, guys! Look how cute it turned out! I really love how it looks. Even if you’re visiting from abroad,
it’s not hard to try, so please try it! Right now, I’m walking through a residential area and observing Korean houses Something about it felt really familiar. Then I realized it’s just like the vibe you see in Korean dramas! There’s a certain emotional aesthetic that
only Korean homes seem to have, and walking around here, I can really feel it. It’s fascinating! There are lots of brick walls, but it feels totally different from European homes, which are really unique and interesting. While looking up places in Yeonhui-dong, I came across a knitting café that popped up as one of the top spots. I used to be super into knitting when I was younger, it was a whole hobby phase for me! So I got curious and decided to stop by, since I heard the store was spacious and had a wide selection of items. And yep, it’s huge! It’s basically yarn heaven in here! I can’t stop looking around, there’s so much to see. Wow, this piece was handmade too?!
The yarn itself is so beautiful! And here’s one that feels firmer and more structured.
There are so many different yarn textures and colors. What color should I go for? Since I’m making a hair accessory, it needs to match my hair color,
let me check in the mirror real quick.
Wow, it’s so pretty! And I think it really suits my hair! They have everything you could possibly need for knitting, And there are so many kinds of buttons too, it’s honestly hard to choose ㅠㅠ They’re all so cute… Wait, I actually brought something I made recently! Isn’t it adorable~~
I was thinking maybe I could add a button to this! Adding a pop of detail to my bag—honestly,
I could just live here. Alright, time to get serious and make my final picks! Guys, I thought it over carefully and made my purchase! There’s a café on the second floor, so let’s head up! It looks super cozy, perfect for a little break 🙂 And of course, I couldn’t resist ordering some cute drinks and desserts 😆 This place is heaven… Today, I’m going to try making something simple using this beautiful yarn I picked out! I’m planning to make a hair scrunchie using
pretty yarn and an elastic band. Materials: crochet hook, elastic band, and yarn. This yarn is so pretty, it’s my first time using a texture like this! First things first, let’s watch a tutorial video… The beginning is the hardest part, right?
Not a still frame, I promise… 😅 Luckily, I got the hang of it pretty quickly and got started! (The concentration is real)
(Hands moving faster and faster!) Deep in crochet mode! I’m almost done now, so let’s power through to the finish. It’s been, what, about an hour and ten minutes? I’m doing the final finishing touches now! Honestly, this was both relaxing and a little frustrating Like trying to play with three cats at once. Finally, I fluffed it up by loosening the yarn at the end…
and it’s done! Time to try it on! How does it look?! I’m totally satisfied with the result! 🌸 So, how did you like exploring Yeonhui-dong with me today? It was actually my first time here, and I found it to be such a great neighborhood filled with art, culture, and creative spaces. To my Japanese Mint viewers,
did you enjoy this Yeonhui-dong vlog? This area feels like it’s straight out of a Korean drama or film, with charming little shops tucked between quiet, sentimental residential streets. Since this is a real residential neighborhood where people actually live, I recommend taking your time and strolling quietly to enjoy the peaceful vibe. That’s it for today’s video! See you in the next one!
