乗客0人の激安フェリーに1人で乗ったら、想像以上に寂しすぎた…
Hey there, it’s Yuuka! Right now, I’m in Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Today, I’m hopping on the Suruga Bay Ferry, which is known for the best Mt. Fuji views in Japan. I’m heading from Toi Port to Shimizu Port. This ferry connects Nishi-Izu and Shimizu in about an hour and a half. Apparently, it’s even nicknamed “Route 223 (Fuji-san)”—on the sea! So today, I’m going to take it slow and enjoy this chill local ferry trip. Let’s go! It’s here! That’s the Suruga Bay Ferry “Fuji.” It left Shimizu Port at 7:40 this morning, and made it all the way over here. *Shoutout to this hardworking ferry Apparently, it’s a mid-sized ferry, 83 meters long, in service since 2005. That’s the ticket booth right there. And look, it even says “Route 223” on the wall. Alrighty, time to go grab a ticket! Got my ticket! It was… 20 yen for adults. Wait, oops… Fishing not allowed here. I paid 2,000 yen, so like 13 bucks. Alright, let’s head to the boarding area. So far, I haven’t seen any other passengers… There are more crew members than travelers. Am I seriously the only one? Do I… have the whole boat to myself? *Nah, no way that’s happening Okay, time to officially check in and board. Here we go! I don’t think it’s gonna be choppy today. Oh really? That’s good to know. *Getting welcomed like this kinda makes me feel like a celebrity. Everyone’s so nice here. I’m starting to feel all happy and warm inside. *Yeah, I’m easy when people are nice to me The Suruga Bay ferry route is officially designated as Route 223 (Fujisan). When the weather’s good like today, you can see Mt. Fuji just like this! *But only if you’ve been living your life right 😇 *You take an elevator from the vehicle deck up to the passenger area Let’s see where Mt. Fuji is today, with all these clouds and this weather. Apparently the view really changes depending on the weather conditions. I’ve officially boarded the ferry! Look at this! There’s literally no one here… It’s way more spacious than I expected. And they even have a little shop onboard! This is the area where regular passengers can sit. It actually looks super comfy—way nicer than I thought. I’m excited! *Time to check out the shop lineup They’ve got tons of local sake from Shizuoka. And this cute-looking drink— Is it beer? It’s called Amber Fuji. This one right here! “Suruga Bay Jealousy”…? Oops, my bad— It’s actually “Suruga Bay Gelato.” Everything’s blue! That’s wild… There’s also a space here where you can just lay around. Since there’s no one else, I can do stuff like this. *Let the chaos begin! For an introvert like me, this ferry is absolute perfection. I mean, I basically got a private ferry ride for just 13 bucks?! Totally didn’t see that coming. Lucky me! When you step out on the deck, it looks like this— Doesn’t it kinda feel like poolside chairs? It’d be so nice to sit here and sip some booze. Look at this— It says “Takoyaki” right there, but there’s no one here… It says “Currently not selling takoyaki.” Rude. Come on, seriously? So many yummy-looking things on the menu, but none of them are being served. All that’s running is the PayPay machine. Mt. Fuji! Today I can film it loud and proud. Someday, I wanna be bigger than Mt. Fuji. Yep, bigger than Mt. Fuji. *Dreaming of becoming Big Fuji 9:34 AM We’re leaving in just one minute! Will we be able to get a good look at Mt. Fuji, I wonder? Bye-bye, Toi Port! Off to somewhere far, far away from Toi Port. Whoa—there’s a ton of water shooting out from over there. Bye again, Toi Port! I’ll be back! The Suruga Bay Ferry has finally departed from Toi Port! Time to enjoy some epic Mt. Fuji views from out on the water. Oh right— I didn’t expect there to be so few passengers. Actually… there’s literally no one else. I already had the place to myself, but now— I went ahead and grabbed a ticket for the special lounge too. Let’s go check it out! Whoa… Wait—this place is super VIP! Isn’t this amazing? Even the sofa looks all fancy and luxurious. They’ve got a bunch of books too. Honestly, I wanna read them all. You can see the ocean in every direction—360° view! It kind of feels like I’m at the center of the world. Right before I came in here, I got some coffee and a little pack of Chibi Maruko-chan peanuts! You can enjoy this VIP lounge for just 500 yen per adult— so you can feel fancy without going broke. About 3 bucks! You can feel like a VIP without going broke! I’ve made it to the very front seat. Whoa. I kinda feel like the captain of this ship. *Honestly, I’d be terrified of a Mario Kart-style captain Here’s what the view looks like from up front— There’s a flag waving that looks like a family crest. Apparently it’s the Tokugawa clan’s crest, since back in the Edo period, gold from Toi was transported to Sunpu under their rule. By the way, just over to the right… you’re supposed to get this huge, epic view of Mt. Fuji… But I guess because it’s rainy season, the sky’s all cloudy today. Still can’t see it yet… I-I think it’s coming… It should show up any minute now… While we wait for Mt. Fuji, I’m gonna grab something tasty from the shop! There’s nothing like a drink on the open sea— Wait, I meant food! Food tastes best out here! Alright, guess I’ll have a drink after all. Cheers! So good. I also picked up some yakisoba. It’s kind of like Mt. Fuji-style yakisoba, I think it said it’s got Mt. Fuji… ingredients? Or something? Let’s eat! This yakisoba is delicious. Feels like I’m at a festival! Eating outside like this— I’ve never been on a ferry this empty before. Usually, when I’m alone, I get all self-conscious around people. But today, I can just relax and be myself. It finally feels like a real ferry trip, and I’m loving it. *Scenery and price are cool, but fewer people? That’s the real win. Even the ladies at the shop and the crew on board— they’re all basically working just for me, right? Now I kinda feel bad about that… Maybe I should go revive the takoyaki stand in the back. Maybe I should work with them! “If you don’t work, you don’t eat!” *Meanwhile, I’m out here munching like crazy *Technically not drinking, but beer on the ocean hits SO hard Hey, I can kind of see Mt. Fuji now! But it’s still shy and hiding a bit— Come on, show yourself a little more! You got this, Mt. Fuji! Here’s the view from the third floor. Wait—what? Is that… Shimizu Port already? Are we seriously arriving in Shimizu? Huh?? Wait, no way. That was fast! Way ahead of schedule! I can’t believe we’re already at Shimizu… That came outta nowhere! *Rushing back inside to get my $17 worth This is the souvenir corner! They’ve got Mt. Fuji goods and all kinds of local specialties from Shizuoka. Oh look, it’s me. That family crest I saw at the front of the ship— I guess it was this one. It was Tokugawa Ieyasu’s family crest! Look how cool it is. But this isn’t what I came for— I’m here for this ship stamp! I’ve been collecting ship stamps lately. Now which one should I get…? Well, since I’m here… That “New Arrival” one kind of catches my eye. I think I’ll go with that! What time are we arriving at Shimizu Port? We’re almost there. It’s scheduled for 11:05, but looks like we’ll be there a little early—maybe just before 11. Got it! I’m so happy. I only recently started collecting ship stamps, so this is like my fourth one. But I’m planning to ride ferries all across Japan, so I’ll keep collecting more along the way! I bought some gelato! It’s seriously so blue. This is called “Suruga Bay Gelato”— it’s supposed to be salt milk flavor. Let’s dig in! Oh no—looks like we’re almost at Shimizu Port! I gotta eat this fast! We were supposed to arrive at 11:07, but it’s only 10:43 now. We’re super ahead of schedule. Didn’t expect to get here this fast— I was totally taking my time. Maybe it’s because of this… I’m literally the only one onboard! Less weight = faster boat? Since I’m the only passenger, the crew at the shop and everyone I see on board keeps smiling at me— like “hey there!” They even strike up conversations. Everyone’s so kind. *The gelato’s cold, but the people are warm—Suruga Bay Ferry 💙 Right now, Suruga Bay Ferry can’t carry cars, apparently. Maybe that’s why there are so few people on board. I guess it’s usually a bit busier? Toi Port’s nearest shinkansen stop is Mishima Station, and it takes 50 minutes by bus from there. So yeah, not exactly easy to get to. That might be why it’s a bit hard to access. By the way, Suruga Bay Ferry runs three to four times a day. The first one is the 9:35 AM I took, the second is at 1 PM, and the last one departs at 4:30 PM. As I said earlier, the regular fare is 2,000 yen— but if you get a round trip, you can go one way for 1,800 yen. That’s like $12. By the way, fish caught in Suruga Bay include horse mackerel, sakura shrimp, and baby sardines—they’re all famous here. I remember we even had sakura shrimp rice in school lunches. So honestly, even since I was little, Suruga Bay’s kind of been part of my life. It’s not well known, but Suruga Bay is actually Japan’s deepest bay. At its deepest point, it’s about 2,500 meters! Looking up at Japan’s tallest mountain… from Japan’s deepest bay—Mt. Fuji’s hiding like it’s as shy as me. And just like that— we’re already about to dock at Shimizu Port! Oh no… we’re already here! I didn’t even finish eating… And just like that, we’ve arrived at Shimizu Port. I swear, that one hour went by in a flash. I seriously didn’t think we’d get here this fast. I totally took it way too easy. Alright, time to hop off the boat. *Getting a send-off from a crowd—I feel like a celeb again I took the Suruga Bay Ferry “Fuji” from Toi Port all the way to Shimizu Port. I honestly didn’t expect to be the only passenger! It was such a first-time experience… But I’m so glad I got to try it. What a fun ride! First thing I loved about the Suruga Bay Ferry— The special lounge only costs 500 yen! That was seriously awesome. It felt really fancy inside too, and of course, no one else was there— so it was like a private suite! Plus, the windows go across the whole 180 degrees, so you can see all the views your heart desires. I legit felt like I was at the center of the world. It was the best! Second thing—the yakisoba. It was super tasty! I ate it outside, and there was no sea breeze, the boat didn’t rock at all— so it was such a chill, comfy time. It totally felt like a beer garden, like I got a little head start on summer. And third— The price is super budget-friendly, which is a big plus! It’s only 2,000 yen to ride, and getting such a special experience for around 13 bucks? Honestly, I totally recommend it to everyone. It was cloudy today, so I couldn’t get a good view of Mt. Fuji… Next time, when the weather’s nice— and once they start allowing cars again— I wanna come back with my car and do a proper revenge trip! Thanks for watching till the end! I really appreciate it. If you enjoyed this, please like, comment, and subscribe— it means a lot! Alright then, bye-bye!
