Shiori Yamao and Genki Sudo were announced as the official candidates for the Democratic Party for the People’s House of Councillors election, and since then, the approval rating of the Democratic Party for the People has been falling. Currently, a survey has been conducted on what kind of comments on the Internet are being responded to by what kind of people. In the case of Shiori Yamao, it seems that there were many negative opinions among those other than supporters of the Democratic Party for the People, such as “Why is this person trying to return to politics?” This means that Shiori Yamao’s affair problem remains very deep-rooted. On the other hand, in the case of Genki Sudo, it is analyzed that there was a strong sense of rejection among supporters of the Democratic Party for the People, wondering why someone who is completely different from the party’s policy is being recommended as an official candidate, which promoted the loss of supporters. As such, both candidates have their own reasons for being strongly disliked by the public, but in the case of Shiori Yamao, she has been asked to explain the affair issue and, more recently, the issue of promoting a female emperor. So she held a press conference to announce her candidacy. She herself has been talking about how she will respond sincerely on social media, and there was a lot of attention on what the content of her candidacy would be. However, when the press conference was held, the content of the conference was met with strong negative reviews on the Internet, and it seems to me that it is making the situation worse, rather than just adding fuel to the fire . First of all, the reason why Shiori Yamao became an official candidate in the election was that she was asked by the representative of the Democratic Party for the People, Tamaki, to please run in the election. From Tamaki’s perspective, it is possible that the promotion of a female emperor and the affair issue are not considered to be major issues. At this point, there is already a problem. At the beginning of the press conference, she talked about her past. For example, the issue of fraudulent claims for gasoline. He admitted that he did not carry out this incident himself, but rather that his secretary did, and that he took responsibility for it. On the other hand, he admitted that he misused the free JR pass, which is a privilege for members of parliament. Although he apologized once in the past, he said that his response at the time was very sloppy and that he was immature at the time. Up to this point, he talked about the past, but when it came to the main topic of the conversation, the affair issue, he was quite evasive. When asked questions by reporters, he repeatedly refused to answer, saying that he had no intention of talking about anything new here, even though everyone seemed to expect him to say something new. Every time he was asked something, he just repeated that he had told them everything eight years ago and that he had no intention of talking about anything new now. When he was asked about the suicide of the wife of his affair partner, he did not say much, saying that he did not know the details. He said that he was supposed to have reflected on his response eight years ago, but in the end, things are developing in a similar way to what happened then. When asked if he had an affair or not, he did n’t clearly say that he had or had not had an affair, but said that it was true that he had told everything eight years ago, and tried to end the conversation at that point. That’s why reporters asked him similar questions over and over again, such as, how was it? Is it true? Is it not true? Also, when asked for a comment on his policy, about his opinion on promoting a female emperor , he refused to answer, saying that he had nothing to discuss at this press conference. Prior to this press conference, the policy of the Democratic Party for the People was to maintain male lineage, but he was talking about trying to force in the idea that , although that was the case at the current stage, there should be a discussion on a female emperor in the future . That’s why he was asked again about the incompatibility between his current opinion and the party’s policy, but he answered without comment. This cannot be said to be a fulfillment of his responsibility to explain. Regarding the adultery issue, if he did not have an affair, he should not talk about how he handled it poorly, but rather, if the weekly newspaper report was wrong, he should have made an effort to prove his innocence by filing a lawsuit about it . If he does not do such a thing and apologizes for his past bad behavior, this is also a very dishonest and contradictory response. What was the “sincere response” he spoke about before the press conference after all? His appearance of running away without giving a straight answer to the questions he was asked seems very dishonest. On the Internet, there were opinions such as, “I don’t understand what the purpose of the press conference was,” “I don’t understand the rational reason why the Democratic Party for the People chose such a person,” and “I think it’s rather annoying that he is trying to run even though he says he is causing trouble to everyone .” When she ran for office, she was going to run under her real name, Shiori Kanno, but Shiori Yamao, which reminded her of the past , such as the suicide of the wife of the man she had an affair with, and the surrounding circumstances , as well as her own family. When asked why she still bothers to use that name, she apologized for the trouble she caused, but it was pointed out that she is still acting as an aggressor. The affair issue is not merely a policy move as a politician. However, the fact that she is dealing with it in an insincere manner is directly related to the question of whether she is a trustworthy politician, and this point should not be ignored.
