Watch out on night roads, guys! It’s Yomichi Yuki here! Today’s featured car is this! It’s the Mazda Roadster RF RS grade, 2019 model! Super cool, right? I bet you all love the Roadster, but here’s a fun fact! Did you know that the Mazda Roadster is the best-selling convertible in the world? Overseas, it’s known as the MX-5, and… its total sales have exceeded 1 million units! Amazing! It’s super popular worldwide. Since I’m sure you love the Roadster too, stick around to the end of the video! The 2019 model color options include Mazda’s signature Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Machine Gray, Ceramic Metallic, and other deep, beautiful tones. You’ll also find Jet Black Mica and Snowflake White. Now let’s check the size! Now for the size. Overall length is 3915mm, overall width is 1735mm, and overall height is 1245mm. Super low, right? Alright, let’s check out the exterior. The Roadster RF features a retractable hardtop, offering the best of both coupe and open-air driving. Its flowing fastback design is both sporty and elegant. This new front face is so cool! Originally, Mazda aimed for a cute look for female drivers. But now, it has this mischievous grin—it’s kind of smug and really cool, right? So now I want to try mimicking the face of this 2019 Roadster RF myself! Next, let’s take a look at the engine. Here we go! It’s equipped with a 2.0L inline 4-cylinder engine, delivering 184 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. Its smooth revving at high RPM is a key appeal, and the vehicle weighs only about 1100kg! It comes with Bilstein dampers and front/rear stabilizers for a supple and stable ride. Fuel economy is about 15.8 km/L under WLTC mode. That’s great mileage for a sports car, making it suitable for daily driving too. By the way, the hardtop reportedly opens and closes in about 13 seconds. Let’s test if it really does. It can also open or close while driving under 10 km/h. Let’s test that too! I really love the Roadster, but I especially love the hardtop version! It looks like a coupe normally, and then becomes an open car. That duality is so awesome. Now let’s take a look at the tires. They are 205/45/R17. The wheels are gunmetal-painted aluminum alloys. The color really matches the body—it looks awesome. All black is totally my style. Next, let’s check the rear. The round taillights really stand out. They carry the identity of the first-gen NA Roadster. They’ve got this retro-cute look, right? Also, the Roadster logo on the back looks super cool! Having that logo really makes you feel like, ‘Yeah, I drive a Roadster!’ And this Roadster logo? It’s only found in Japan. Overseas, it’s labeled as the MX-5. So only Japanese-made models have the Roadster badge. The name ‘Roadster’ itself is just so cool. Like, ‘I’m the star of the road!’ Feels awesome, right? Looking over the whole exterior, the Roadster really is just simply cool. Like, there’s nothing more to customize—it already looks perfect. For example, the mirrors and door handles are all color-matched, and the wheels too. The design doesn’t scream for attention, but it’s still sharp—simple yet sporty, without going overboard. It really feels like the ultimate simple-yet-cool Roadster. Next up, the interior. It features high-quality materials with a simple yet functional design. By the way, the Sport Tan interior was added from the 2019 model onward! The driver’s seat layout is driver-centric, enhancing the joy of driving. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather, with relatively slim spokes. It feels really good to the touch. Also, this red stitching here is super cute. The left side controls the audio functions. The right side is for the driver assistance features. Here’s the center console. The shift knob is also wrapped in leather. The brake lever is leather-wrapped too, and the red stitching looks so cute and stylish. There are also buttons here for audio controls and volume. In the middle, there’s a display monitor that supports touch controls—super handy! The air vents are compact, which enhances the sporty feel. They’re small but that’s what makes them great! It has seat heaters, plus USB and audio cable ports. There’s a central tachometer and digital speed display on the left. The layout lets you stay focused on driving. This brown interior color is super classy. It feels elegant, like something a gentleman would choose. The leather seats are a bit firm, but they hug your body nicely and are very comfortable. Leather is awesome. Brown leather is especially stylish. Higher trims of the RF come with BOSS speakers. And even the headrests have built-in speakers. So when you open the roof, you can still hear the sound clearly. Let’s try it while driving later! Let’s actually test how it performs while driving! The hardtop takes about 13 seconds to open, so let’s try that now! To open the hardtop, press and hold this switch upwards. Alright, let’s start the test! It took 14 seconds! Too bad, Roadster! Let’s try again! This time with all the windows down. Here we go! Ready, set, start! This time it opened in 13 seconds! Now let’s try listening to my song through the BOSS speakers. Apparently, the hardtop can open while going under 10 km/h. Let’s try that! I think I’m under 10 km/h right now, so here we go—open! Ohhh! Seriously, yeah—if you’re under 10 km/h, it works! It opens! Nice! But if you’re going over 10 km/h, it won’t open. Got it. Let’s close it for now. Okay, now we’re on public roads. I’m driving with the top closed. I haven’t gone fast yet, so I’m curious about how quiet it is. Since it’s a hardtop, it should be quieter than a soft top. Let’s listen closely. I really want to hear it. It’s super easy to drive—feels like I’ve become the car. It drives just how I imagined—smooth acceleration and responsive handling. It feels amazing! There’s some noise, but not more than a regular car. It’s not silent, but pretty normal. Let’s try opening the top now. Here we go! Oh no! The light turned green! Will I make it? 10 km/h… no, I didn’t make it! Okay, calm down! Stay cool, don’t panic! That’s what happens when you miss your chance! I do want to close it for you guys, but… It’s a big intersection, so I can’t close it until the next red light. Sorry! I left it half open, that’s my bad! Anyway, now it’s fully open! This feels amazing—basically like a motorcycle! Seriously, this goes beyond a car. It’s basically a bike! It feels like riding a bike! This town, these roads, the sky, the ocean, the sun, the cars—everything feels like it’s mine! So refreshing! I thought my bangs would fly everywhere in the wind, like whoosh! I expected it to be kind of rough, but it’s not like that at all. Look! My bangs are alive and well! I used to think convertibles mess up your hair and feel stuffy, but it’s actually super comfy! It honestly feels amazing. Maybe it changes when you roll the windows down? I feel like I’m stealing everyone’s attention right now. Like, every eye on this Japanese road is looking at me.
