According to Miyamoto (I think), Link pulls the scabbard from the bottom with his left hand when he unsheathes the Master Sword. That said, that's still not enough.
You pull the sword and sheath at the same time. Basically the sheath will slide down to a somewhat side mount. But you can't do it with the strap set up you have.
