Wonderful PreCure!, the 21st iteration of the long-running Pretty Cure series, follows the fur-tastic adventures of Iroha Inukai (Atsumi Tanezaki) and her pet papillon dog Komugi (Maria Naganawa) around Animal Town, a place where animals and people lived together.
Everything was peaceful until that one day when Garugarus (GrrGrrs) – animal inhabitants of Niko Garden who were corrupted into feracious monsters – started to wreak havoc across town, but this have changed Komugi’s and Iroha’s lives forever. Having the guts to defend Iroha from harm’s way, Komugi gained the ability to turn herself into human and then became a pink PreCure known as Cure Wonderful, but Iroha couldn’t afford to see Komugi get herself hurt and she wanted to protect her back, and Iroha’s passionate feelings thus granted her the power to transform into the purple-donned Cure Friendy.
The Inukais are then joined by Mayu Nekoyashiki (Reina Ueda) and her white cat named Yuki (Satsumi Matsuda), having respectively turned themselves into Cures Nyammy and Lillian. At first in this arc, Yuki as Nyammy, unlike the others who aim to rescue the Garugarus, prefers to fight them with the purpose of only protecting Mayu from harm’s way. After Yuki revealed her true identity right in front of her, Mayu came into conflict with Yuki when she tries to prevent her from being friends with the Inukai sisters for dragging her into danger.
This is resolved after she declares her desire to protect Yuki back, which gives Mayu the ability to turn into Cure Lillian, and the two’s trust between each other have earned them the Amity Ribbon Tambourine – the Nekoyashikis’ main musical weapon to perform their purifying technique known as the Amity Lumiere.
Together as the Wonderful! PreCures, the two pairs joined forces and bond themselves together to protect Animal Town from rampaging Garugarus (and later powerful ones known as GaoGaons that are summoned by either of Gaou’s henchmen, namely Zakuro and Torame), purifying not only once-corrupted Niko Animals and then bringing them back to the homeplace where they belong, but they also have rescued some of the animals in the human world.
