Why so many Japanese idols are mentally ill
Idol groups such as the iconic AKB48 are synonymous with Japan, known for their cutesy, choreographed stage performances and film clips, they personify Japanese pop culture and have been super popular here. But what’s really going on behind the popularity?

As an Idol fan myself. I can say that the most important thing for the Idols themselves, is that they are allowed to be themselves. I for one do not want to see a young woman transformed into a product, by soulless corpos. But a performer, showing us their true heart. I don't like excessive producer management. Or fans, that act like Idols are their property.
The pressure to look and act the same with the fixed stereotype is very challenging to maintain healthy mental health. To get male fans, they have to act like inferior female figures, causing lower self-esteem. They could feel like they have no talents at all. Some shows force them to behave like cute animal pets when the financial returns are not enough for their living. It’s a very sad industry ignoring values and talents of the individuals.
If the loud idol fans are anything to go by, I'd develop a mental illness within the first week too.
And most of japanese idol later on they became a porn actress.😭😭
perfect blue
I hope the girls of Perfume are doing well! I love them
If Japanese Idols are "mentally ill" Then what makes trans people?
They only report mental illness because they’re not popular. This is fact.
アイドルの精神的に、日本のに競争がかなり激高、ドラマ、アニメ、漫画、このビデオ「アイドル」に関して各々人の精神力が悪感になったけど苦労関係とか有名のため。
I mean, who doesn't have mental ilness/disorder nowadays ? lol
If these Japanese companies made their music more accessible to foreign markets like the USA they wouldn't be so poor.
The kind of person attracted to becoming an idol also tends to start at a mentally vulnerable baseline, and often has insecurity or a fame-centric identity issue. Those who sincerely desire an entertainer career but rationally know they won't do well with the public limelight should pursue a career as Maiko or modern Geisha.
Short answer :
Same old black company culture.
sad to hear the exploitation and abuse.
He should also interview hololive Youtubers for video ideas.
These trends are in kpop too.
It is very sad that their income is too little, even less than a construction worker. This idol's income is only 40,000 yen while a construction worker or factory worker can get at least 100,000 yen
That's because Japanese women always want to impress everyone that they are the most attractive, even though that's the wrong perspective
the fan (the toxic fan) / consumer/ market also contribute to ruin their life.
It sounds like these underground idols need a day job in order to survive and support their career.
Informative but the Japanese accent is killing me.
If the girls find the pay to low and conditions to harsh, why dont they just leave??
I was just reminded of the image I have for "3rd places" that should be general in some sense, yet I've got image that Japan has it going with more base, or even heart, than the country I live in.
Only things that really outshine and live out here are some places set up to provide space and utilities for crafting or providing something for some hobbies like playing board games.
Still, in general, I've been able to just take chill breaks there.
Cups of coffee, maybe some board games, and maybe being inspired to write something in my notes.
I wonder if this is how it is the most fit way to open doors the most open way.
Maybe they could open bigger doors in that sense, but I don't think this kind of hobby would need to have any steps.
P.s.
Maybe it wouldn't ease people out just like that, but I think it would give boost to the shared nature of people in general.
These are still points I've been touched by, and still I feel like they are bit unfinished. ❤
Hello Nobita, I’m an Italian cosplayer and actually idol in Japan.
Maybe one of the few full non-Japanese doing idol things here!
My group (ZESSEI no Imperial Doll) is totally Japanese except me and I’m learning a lot from them!
One of my member is a almost 40s idol and she tried for 20 years in this industry! And she is AMAZING abut I can only imagine how is struggling be an idol for so long time. How many members they change it, how many livers they did… it’s crazy and yes, I can confirm most than 50% are mentally ill or depress. It’s bad and sad to say “it’s normal” but is it.
Being an idol and working in the entertainment world in Japan is not a joke..
I hope to see more video like this.
People need to know the dark side sometimes.
They are in need of Di*ks
The Taoist proverb of straw dogs perfectly sums up the idol industry. They're celebrated as goddesses for a brief period and then cruelly and dismissively tossed in the bin. Even the term idol means a false god/goddess.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_dog
Adults will squeeze everything out of children for profit, shamelessly exploiting their dream. And let's be honest, they try not to notice the darkest side of this industry, and idols are afraid to talk about it.
who are the performers at 4:54?
Short answer: most Japanese people are mentally ill, like America's, you guys just suck at healthcare.
It's not just Japan.
Any idols or celebrities gets crushed by the fandom and the pressure.
Imagine having your life in the open and having toxic babies go crazy over you.
That's going to break anyone, sooner or later.
It's just pure social science and psychology. 🖕😎🖕
This is very much the same story for anyone in America trying to be an actor. Long gaps in between projects, often many "gigs" are unpaid or paid in building up their reel.
It's quite unfair and I guess entertainment in general is a tough experience no matter which country it originates from.
In no way do these people deserve that stalking or any threats to their safety. That's so tragic and honestly is a struggle when so close to the fans as they said. No one is entitled to any obligatory interaction even if they are in "relationships" real or not. Real fans and those who love should respect that
It just means being someone's puppet in an evil scheme for money. Of course it wont make you happy. Presenting yourself as an idol so people worship you instead of God. It's really wrong.
4“You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 5“You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. Exodus 20:4
Is anyone honestly suprised about those number?
I mean:
1: GO into a japanese company = Stress
2: GO into the idol industry –> Competitive industry= more stress
3: An industry where you need to make cash quick, as the skills you learn are hardly useful in the normal economy: even more stress
And the list goes on…. so yeah i am not suprised and cant fully feel sorry either, as trough people like Nobita, these things are public knowledge.
Actually it’s sameness’s as Japanese/Korean Musicians, with others elements, if you’re stuck within fields, suggesting taking care yourself with healthy, lifestyle, exercising with healthy/balance diets, doing performance is good but not getting better payment in Struggles, starting changing be prepares for different things and career goals too.
zato sto svi vole njenu sminku kostim i sto je najteze za svako metalno zdravlje niko nevoli tebe u prirodi vec farbu i omot to ti je kao cokolada sjajna visokog stila a kad je otpakujes ona bljak …to ubija svakog
Oe nichan very good videos you make, very interesting😊
My armchair hypothesis was, the companies purposely cast / recruit mentally ill people they can better control and xploit
It is very unstable buisness. I think thats why people that work there have more such issues
Not surprised the pay is low given the fact that each group seems to have about 30+ members.
