I think Hitler was paranoid that the winners of WW1 would continue to keep Germany down and that he had to assert dominance over them for their prosperity to exist. He would of won if he hadn't of turned on Russia but he just couldn't stomach sharing Europe with the communists. The lesson here for us is that in this imperfect world we all need to learn to live with compromises.
