Interestingly, it was a popular female voice actress who inspired her to pursue a career in voice acting. Born on April 30, 1998, in Saitama Prefecture, Iwami first became aware of the voice acting profession in 2014 after watching the anime "Durarara!!" This anime vividly brought her youth to life and impressed upon her the power of voice acting to bring characters to life. She once passionately discussed "Durarara!!" at length on a radio show with voice actress Ai Fairouz. I recall Manati mentioning that Izaya Orihara is her favorite character. Then, during her middle school years, she watched "Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day" and was deeply moved by Ai Kayano’s performance as Menma. That performance inspired her to become a voice actress capable of touching people’s hearts with her voice. Indeed, Menma’s portrayal touched many, and despite being relatively new to the industry, Ai Kayano’s performance moved people around the world to tears. From the moment Iwami decided to pursue voice acting, her determination and proactive approach were extraordinary. What exactly did she do that showcased her determination and proactive approach? Iwami, who loved reading and was not much of a talker during her middle school years, also had poor articulation. It’s hard to believe she had poor articulation now… To overcome her articulation issues, she felt the need to start voice acting studies early to succeed professionally. Thus, she wanted to enroll in a voice acting school as soon as she entered high school, but her father said, "Wait until after you graduate from high school," and was reluctant to give his permission. So, Iwami took a bold stance, declaring, "If you won’t let me go to the training school, I won’t go to high school!" This finally persuaded her father, and she began attending Pro-Fit Voice Actor Training School while still in high school. That was a brave decision… After graduating from the training school, she made her debut as a voice actress affiliated with Pro-Fit in 2016. By the way, at the agency’s audition, she had decided that if she didn’t pass, she would quit voice acting altogether, making it a do-or-die situation for her. A little tidbit: during her middle school years, she performed her unique voice care. When her voice was off, she would place a small speaker against her throat, open her mouth, and play the voices of admired voice actresses like Ai Kayano, Kana Hanazawa, Saori Hayami, and Mamiko Noto. She thought, "Since sound is vibration of the air, maybe vibrating my vocal cords with the vibration of the voices I admire will help fix them and make me sound like them…" She now admits it was a silly idea, of course. Th-That was quite a unique approach to voice care… For Iwami, a certain anime became her debut work as a voice actress. In 2017, she made her voice acting debut as Aira Miyamoto in the anime "Tsuki ga Kirei." Although she was quite nervous in this first role, the warm support from her co-stars turned it into a fun experience. In particular, co-star Konomi Kohara actively reached out to the shy Iwami, whom Iwami thought of as an "angelic person" due to her beautiful appearance and kind personality. Completely agree, Koko-chan is an angel. In 2018, Iwami played Maquia in the animated film "Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms," marking her first lead role. In this film, she co-starred with her admired voice actress Ai Kayano and also with Miyu Irino, who played Jintan in "Anohana." Additionally, Mari Okada, who wrote the script for "Anohana," directed "Maquia," making it a very fortunate project for Iwami. That year, she also played main roles in "Tada Never Falls in Love," "Phantom in the Twilight," etc. and in 2019, just three years after her debut, she won the Best New Actress award at the 13th Seiyu Awards.
