Hello everyone, today I have come to Chengdu in Sichuan, China. I was invited by the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS). I heard that Chengdu is a cultural city in China. Shall we take a look around? The Wuhou Shrine’ is a temple built to commemorate Zhuge Liang, the chancellor of the Shu Han state during the Three Kingdoms period. It consists of Huiling, Han Zhao Lie Temple, Wuhou Shrine, the Shrine of Three Righteousness, and more. Inside the temple, there are statues of heroes from the Shu Han state, including Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang. I heard you can look around with traditional Chinese clothes. So I’m going to change and come back! Tada~ I changed it~ It’s my first time to try it on and it’s very light! How do I look? Pretty right?! This outfit matches the atmosphere well, so I’m going to look around. The Records of the Three Kingdoms is a historical text about the Three Kingdoms period in China, written by Chen Shou of the Western Jin dynasty and later supplemented by Pei Songzhi of the Song dynasty. Do you all know the Three Kingdoms?! In the Three Kingdoms, there are famous figures like Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and Zhuge Liang. These are well-known people. Liu Bei’s acquisition of Zhuge Liang was as significant as a fish finding water, showing Zhuge Liang’s high reputation! Among them, Zhuge Liang is famous for being brought in by Liu Bei through the "Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage." I heard that this Wuhou Shrine commemorates Zhuge Liang and Liu Bei. The statue you see in front is Liu Bei. If you’re a fan of the Three Kingdoms, you must visit here! It’s an amazing place already, and each location has its own story, making it even more romantic. I heard that the main character Liu Bei is in the middle, with Zhang Fei beside him. And on the other side, there’s Guan Yu too! There are also other ministers here. While reading the Three Kingdoms, I thought there were so many characters. I remember taking notes as I read. It would have been easier to read if I remembered them by their faces and costumes. Since there are a lot of people in front of the popular characters, it was the hardest to take a picture of Liu Bei. There are these red walls here and there, which make for beautiful photos. Wow, I saw this in advance on YouTube! I have to take a picture! Wow, it’s beautiful, guys! There’s a bamboo path in Kyoto too, but the red walls give a different feeling, making it even more beautiful. The outfit really matches the atmosphere, doesn’t it? There were so many beautiful spots that I was busy capturing everything in photos. A tourist attraction in Chengdu, considered to be the most beautiful alley, is Kuan Zhai Xiangzi, which combines three types of streets: Kuanxiangzi (Wide Alley), Zhaixiangzi (Narrow Alley), and Jingxiangzi. You can feel the charm of Qing Dynasty architecture and tradition here. It definitely seems like a tourist spot..! There are so many people..! There is a lot to see. And as for the food, there are many interesting things. There are many foods that you can’t imagine the taste of just by looking at them, making you want to try everything.. Chinese food is very diverse so I get more curious There are ducks running around? Haha, it was a place selling duck meat!! The way each shop promotes itself is a bit different, which is fun haha Looking at the map, we are in the Wide Alley, and it seems like the Narrow Alley is a bit off to the side. Since China is famous for its incense, if we look well, we might find something we like.. Wow, they even sell something like sikhye! With its traditional atmosphere, it feels like Insadong. Wow~ There are so many fascinating things~ Aren’t the buildings that make up the alleyways so beautiful?! A Kuan Zhai Xiangzi alley tour that left no time to get bored! I wanted to try some street food too, so I spotted this shop while passing by and decided to enjoy a drink here. Wow, this looks interesting, is this really bamboo? It’s really fascinating..! Oh, it’s not a drink, haha. (It was a soft dessert called ‘茉莉冰豆花’ (Jasmine Ice Tofu Pudding) I thought it was a cold drink, but it turned out to be a dessert. I’ve come all the way to China, so I have to try it, right? Tasting it… it kind of reminds me of sikhye! It has a tofu-like texture, but it’s sweet and slightly sour, which is interesting The sourness makes it feel even more refreshing. Enjoying the dessert while leisurely sightseeing made it even better, haha. This is the Arabica Coffee shop in Kuan Zhai Xiangzi! Although it’s in a traditional building, the inside is modernized and looks very pretty! When I visited the Japanese tourist spot Kawagoe, there was a Starbucks that matched the Kawagoe atmosphere. I heard there’s also a Starbucks here in Kuan Zhai Xiangzi that fits well with the local vibe… Is this it? Amazing~ (It’s a place that clearly reflects China’s traditional atmosphere!) If it weren’t for the Starbucks logo, you wouldn’t know it’s a Starbucks. Kuan Zhai Xiangzi was so much fun, I wish I could stay longer, but we have another place to go, so let’s move on! This place was so much fun! Guys, we were just a 15-20 minute drive from Kuan Zhai Xiangzi and now we’ve arrived at Du Fu Thatched Cottage! It was featured in the Korean movie ‘Season of Good Rain,’ and I’ve heard the place is beautiful. This is where the famous poet Du Fu stayed for 3-4 years and wrote most of his poems I’m excited to go in because it seems to have that literary vibe! I’m excited to go in because it seems to have that literary vibe! Du Fu wrote over 240 poems here because he felt so peaceful when he stayed here Du Fu wrote over 240 poems here because he felt so peaceful when he stayed here I can understand what it means to feel at ease. Being quietly surrounded by nature makes you think of beautiful words. Being quietly surrounded by nature makes you think of beautiful words. Here’s the statue featured in the movie! This is the poet Du Fu himself! There’s a scene where the actor Jung Woo-sung touches this statue’s hand. Du Fu Thatched Cottage has a lot to see in every corner. The sound of the quiet wind in the bamboo forest… * It feels like the wind is singing. Oh my… I feel like a poet too..! Hahaha. Du Fu’s poem ‘Spring Night Rain’ inspired the movie ‘Season of Good Rain.’ The first line of ‘Spring Night Rain’ means, "Good rain knows when to fall." The first line of ‘Spring Night Rain’ means, "Good rain knows when to fall." Seeing this, I can imagine many warm poems were born here! It’s said that good rain knows when to fall, so does that mean this rain is bad rain…? The rainy weather matched the peaceful atmosphere of Du Fu Thatched Cottage perfectly. I really liked the vibe and energy of this place It was a healing experience for me. I recommend watching the movie ‘Season of Good Rain’ before coming here. I watched it beforehand, and it made the visit even more touching. Shall we head to our next destination? Since we’re in Sichuan, we have to try some Sichuan cuisine. I’ve heard that Sichuan is famous for Mapo Tofu. I’m so curious about how it tastes~ #Chen Ma Po Dou Fu The atmosphere of the restaurant is lively and great, so I have high expectations. When I watched ‘Season of Good Rain,’ there was a line by actor Kim Sang-ho that went, "When you think of Sichuan, you think of beauties, liquor, pandas, and Sichuan food." I hope it lives up to that! I’ve done a bit of homework on Mapo Tofu. The name means "pockmarked old woman’s spicy tofu!" I didn’t know it had such an interesting meaning, haha. *The origin of the name Mapo Tofu In the late Qing Dynasty, Mrs. Chen opened a shop and made a spicy tofu dish by mixing tofu, chili peppers, Sichuan peppercorns, beef, and chili oil. It was named ‘Mapo Tofu’ because it means ‘spicy (痲) tofu sold by an old woman (婆).’ I thought this was a toothpick holder at first, but inside… there’s a small piece of wood that… fits into the hole at the end of the chopsticks! How fascinating, I’ve never seen this before! Different countries even have different chopsticks! Let’s eat! Finally, a variety of Sichuan dishes are here! I’ll start with the Mapo Tofu. I’ve heard it has Sichuan peppercorns, so it has a numbing sensation. Let’s see… Hmm~ The spices are strong, and then the numbing sensation kicks in! (Numb~) It’s different from the taste in Japan, more of a mature flavor. (It was a manageable level of spiciness.) There’s no sweetness at all, but it’s not so spicy that I can’t eat it. I’m not usually good with spicy food, but this is just right. (Let’s try the Dan Dan noodles!) I often ate Dan Dan noodles in Japan, but I’ve heard they’re different in China and Japan! Chinese Dan Dan noodles: A traditional Sichuan dish, with minced meat stir-fried in spicy sauce, served over noodles. As it moved to Guangdong, it became soup-based, and in Japan and Korea, it was adapted to local tastes. I wonder if this will be spicy… Let’s try it, haha. Slurp~ It’s spicy… I didn’t know Dan Dan noodles were originally a spicy dish. The strong spices bring out the heat…! The intense yet addictive flavor of mala… delicious. It’s my first time trying Sichuan food in China, and it’s incredibly tasty! The flavors are stimulating yet very appealing. I’m really looking forward to the rest of our Sichuan trip! Guys~ We’ve come to the East side Pier for a night cruise! I heard this place is very popular among young people, and I’m amazed at how beautiful it is! Let’s enjoy the night view, haha. Wow, it’s so nice I boarded the boat, and the view from up here is so different and wonderful! The combination of projection mapping with modern technology to showcase historical scenes is pretty cool. The combination of projection mapping with modern technology to showcase historical scenes is pretty cool. Even though the ride wasn’t long, it had a story and varied sights, making it more fun. Today, we explored famous tourist spots in Chengdu, where we could feel the history and tradition. How did you like it? In the end, we got to visit an amazing place that encapsulates Chengdu’s culture all at once, which was absolutely great! Are you curious about other travel spots in Chengdu?! Stay tuned for the next episode~
