Water in Beechmere is rising  fast. Your life is in danger,” water level in the Beechmere was 6.6 meters –  7.7 meters above the normal level of the creek. Emergency services warned that,  based on the forecasted conditions,   one-story buildings could be completely flooded  and evacuation routes could soon be cut off.

Residents of the neighboring Kabultur,  located at the bottom of King Street and Mary   Street, were advised to prepare for evacuation  as floodwaters are also expected to rise there. The city council also opened all of its public   libraries to those seeking  shelter from the weather.

This comes after dangerous flash flooding left  families trapped in their homes overnight,   with emergency services carrying  out water rescues for families   seeking help in the Moreton Bay, Somerset,  Lockyer Valley and Darling Downs regions. Intense downpours continue today,  and the Bureau of Meteorology has   previously warned of numerous  “very dangerous” thunderstorms

That could cause “life-threatening”  intense rainfall and flash flooding. Kabultura was at the epicenter of one  slow-moving storm, and authorities in   Moreton Bay advised all residents to stay indoors. The Queensland Fire and Emergency  Services are urging residents to   stay in their homes until the storms pass.

While the southeast is taking  the brunt of the storms,   much of Queensland experienced  heavy rainfall overnight. Samford in Moreton Bay saw 300mm  of rainfall in just three hours,   and the Central Highlands  saw around 81mm in two hours. As of today, the storm warning remains  in effect for a vast area from Bundaberg

Over the next 62 hours, significant  rainfall of 100mm to 150mm is forecast   between the Gold Coast and Gladstone, with  isolated rainfall of around 250-300mm. A coastal trough is developing,  bringing wet and unstable weather.  The heaviest precipitation is expected  between tonight and tomorrow morning   as a low pressure system develops in the trough.
